Honeywell Analytics Gas Monitoring Solution Offers Advanced Diagnostics to Reduce Safety Risk; Protects People, Processes and Profitability in Harsh Industrial Environments

Lincolnshire, IL, USA April 12, 2010 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced that its XNX Universal Gas Transmitter from Honeywell Analytics has been approved for use in a SIL 2 system by TUV Rheinland, the industry's highest recognized SIL certification agency.

The SIL 2 approval is based on a global Safety Management Standard established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) - IEC 61508. While IEC 61508 is a well established standard in industrial process control and automation, in today's applications this certification is becoming mandatory in such industries as oil and gas, petrochemical, wastewater treatment, mining, heavy manufacturing, nuclear power generation and other industries with high safety requirements.

"SIL 2 assures the reliability and integrity of mission-critical gas monitoring equipment to customers at a time when it has never been more important to integrate safety and process agendas," said Mike Mottice, sales manager for Honeywell Analytics. "With SIL 2 approval, our customers can meet advanced regulatory requirements easily and cost-effectively while gaining the quality assurance they need when upgrading their gas monitoring systems."

About XNX

XNX supports a range of gas sensing technologies and instrumentation for use in SIL 2 systems, including Honeywell Analytics' own Searchline Excel (open-path infrared), Searchpoint Optima (point infrared), MPD (multi-purpose detector with catalytic bead sensor) and 705HT (high-temperature catalytic bead sensor). Through its advanced proprietary software and interoperability with all major industrial communications including HART, Foundation Fieldbus and Modbus, XNX universal gas transmitter offers advanced diagnostic capabilities that can reduce maintenance, equipment replacement, downtime and other operational expenses. XNX's diagnostic advantage comes from the unit's ability to predict random faults as well as systematic faults-a chief characteristic of SIL 2 approved systems.
