Honeybee Licenses High Temperature Motor Technology to CDA InterCorp, LLC

Motor originally developed for mission to Venus can operate in record temperatures, now finds new uses in extreme industrial applications; Honeybee continues to develop technology with Phase II SBIR Award

NEW YORK, Dec. 15, 2010 - Honeybee Robotics, a leading developer of advanced technology for robotic and spacecraft systems, today announced it has licensed its High Temperature Motor to CDA InterCorp, LLC. The motor can tolerate temperatures of 460 degrees C and above--the highest ever recorded for an electric motor--making it ideal for applications in extreme heat environments, such as aviation, drilling and industry.

Under the agreement, CDA InterCorp will manufacture and market high temperature motors for space and commercial applications. Honeybee Robotics will continue developing support systems for the motor through Phase II SBIR funds recently awarded by NASA.

Honeybee created the High Temperature Motor for future missions to the surface of Venus, where it would encounter intense heat and pressure. Materials and design allow it to operate in extreme heat without the need for a bulky, expensive thermal control system. Its high efficiency and temperature tolerances make it well suited to severe environments, such as in deep drilling applications, geothermal systems or aircraft engines.

"Our High Temperature Motor is indicative of Honeybee's ability to design, develop and engineer products with exceptional capabilities, and we expect it will prove valuable to industries that operate in extreme environments," said Stephen Gorevan, Chairman of Honeybee Robotics. "The agreement with CDA InterCorp is a model for future commercialization of our technology, and we're looking forward to further developing the motor system to make it even more attractive to users."

"The licensing agreement for the High Temperature Motor fits our strategy of providing highly engineered, highly reliable controllable drive actuators for use in extreme environments and applications," said Joe Grote, President of CDA Intercorp, LLC. "This is a logical expansion of our standard product line and we are looking forward to incorporating this technology with our current design standards and introducing it to customers in the space, aerospace, defense, and oil & gas industries."

CDA InterCorp is a leader in the design and manufacture of highly engineered actuators for advanced control systems. Its modular designs have numerous uses in defense, aviation, space, drilling and industrial applications. The Florida-based company works closely with civil and military government customers, as well as primary contractors developing airborne, shipboard, ground and space based systems.
