Hocoma to Showcase Valedo Digital Back Health Coach at CES 2015

NORWELL, Mass. – Hocoma, a leader in the development of robotic and sensor-based medical devices for functional movement therapy, today announced plans to showcase Valedo®, a personal medical device that combines physical sensors with fun, interactive games to support long-term back health, at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES Tech West, Sands Expo, booth #73928) from January 6-9, 2015 in Las Vegas.

The company will also hold Move for a Healthy Back, a high-score daily challenge in which attendees exercise their way through one of Valedo's games. The participant with the highest score at the end of each day will take home a Valedo, valued at $359.

To schedule an interview with Hocoma and/or a demo of Valedo before, at, or following CES, please contact Marisa Borgasano of MSLGROUP at Hocoma@mslgroup.com or 781-684-0770.

What:

Hocoma will host meetings and offer live demos of its innovative Valedo, a 2015 CES Innovation Awards Honoree.

A personal medical device for the low back, Valedo transforms biomechanical exercises developed by physical therapy professionals into fun, interactive games on a user's iPad or iPhone. For consumers looking to extend the benefits of professional physical therapy at home, or those interested in a self-help tool that can be done on the go, Valedo serves as a 24/7 digital back health coach.

Unlike wearable technologies that simply track steps and heart rate, or gaming devices that are camera-based, Valedo uses physical sensors to detect and respond to micro movements, ensuring that each exercise is tailored to the user and done correctly. Valedo's games guide users through a complete series of movements that take place in virtual "worlds" and are designed, over time, to restore motion to vertebral joints and redevelop deep muscles, which can help back pain sufferers achieve sustained back health.

Valedo is compatible with the iPad 3 and above, iPhone 5 and above and all versions of the iPad mini; it will also be available for Android and Windows devices later in 2015. Valedo is available for purchase at www.valedotherapy.com.

When:

The 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show takes place January 6-9, 2015. The show is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 am to 6 pm and Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.

Valedo also will be on display at the CES Unveiled Las Vegas event, which takes place Sunday, January 4 from 4 to 7 pm at the Mandalay Bay, Level 3, South Seas Ballroom C.

Why:

Eight out of 10 people will be affected by back pain at some point during their lives,(i) making it the No. 1 cause of disability worldwide(ii) and resulting in as much as $200 billion in lost wages and productivity. Many sufferers struggle for years to find relief, but treatment options often only provide short-term relief or, in the case of pain medication, carry serious side effects, including drowsiness, liver damage and potential for addiction. Now, thanks to Valedo, consumers have a new way to improve and sustain low back health in the comfort of their own home.
