Original Press Release:

Faster Engineering and Simpler Validation

The 2005 version of the WinCC flexible HMI (Human Machine Interface) software from Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) offers shorter engineering times and simplifies validation. This software covers applications in machine and plant construction and in the pharmaceutical and food and beverage industries.

Compared to the previous version, WinCC flexible 2005 generates the respective project faster, and reduces the total configuration time (for example by optimizing the project database). In addition, handling has been simplified in that user-specific graphics are linked to the project and can be directly edited. The import/export interface has been provided particularly for export-oriented machine constructors since any project texts in Unicode can be edited using external tools and translated, for example, into Chinese, Korean or Japanese.

The audit option of the HMI software covers the requirements for applications in the pharmaceutical industry requiring validation to CFR 21 Part 11. For example, the user administration has been appropriately expanded by an access control feature with electronic signature. So-called audit trails record all relevant modifications to variables and any operator inputs in line with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), and can be visualized using the audit viewer. It is then clear who carried out what operations, and when. At the same time, audit trails are also suitable for tracking and tracing manufacturing processes in line with the ED 178/2002 directive for the food and beverage industry. The tracking of modifications in production processes using audit trails is already possible with panels of the Simatic 270 series, and supports the delivery of machines for plants subject to validation.

Configurations produced with ProTool V5.2 or later are compatible with WinCC flexible 2005. Conversion from other systems to the HMI software is therefore possible by importing process variables as an Excel file. Converters for the programming software can be downloaded free of charge from the Internet.
