Emerson Releases Intellution's® Ifix 3.0; Greatly Enhances Traditional HMI/Scada Role

Expanded security and data integrity lead new feature list

Foxborough, Mass. (July 8, 2002) - Emerson Process Management today announced the release of Intellution's iFIX 3.0 - the latest version of the company's popular HMI/SCADA application. Version 3.0 introduces key functionality that greatly expands the application's already robust security, usability and data integrity capabilities.

"The role of HMI/SCADA has evolved far beyond mere process control and visualization," said Harry Merkin, Intellution's Vice President of Global Marketing. "To remain competitive, today's manufacturers need to extend the reach of the plant floor to various levels of the enterprise, and they need to do so securely, efficiently and with greater traceability than ever before. iFIX 3.0 is ideally suited to meet those needs in both regulated and traditional marketplaces"

Enhanced audit trail capabilities
One of the most significant additions to iFIX 3.0 is the inclusion of point verification - a set of core functionality which requires users to enter username and password information each time a change is made to the HMI/SCADA application or to perform specific actions within the process. This prompt for username and password is independent from the initial user login, thereby ensuring that only authorized users can access specific functionality. Where and when point verification features are necessary is established during system configuration and, once defined, creates a detailed audit trail of "who did what, when they did it and why it was done."

This new functionality is critical for businesses operating under the jurisdiction of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), particularly as these businesses bring their systems into compliance with 21 CFR Part 11 - an FDA regulation specifying how electronic production records and electronic signatures are to be collected, stored and secured. However, this functionality has been delivered in such a way to enhance product quality and consistency, as well as achieve a greater level of security and accountability in all market segments.

Complete and Easy-to-Use Security
Fully synchronized and configurable with standard Windows security, iFIX application protection is robust yet easy to administer. iFIX security completely controls access to operator displays, schedules and recipes, as well as access to critical program functionality - such as reloading or writing to the process database.

"Security is of paramount concern today," said Tim Donaldson, Product Marketing Manager - HMI/SCADA. "As a result, we ensured that iFIX delivers complete protection that's extremely easy and cost effective to set-up and manage."

New 'ease-of-use' features
In addition to making Intellution iFIX 3.0 one of the most powerful and flexible HMI/SCADA solutions currently available, Emerson has made the application remarkably easy to use. Through powerful Wizards, iFIX 3.0 makes developing and deploying applications a simple and efficient process. For environments where use of a physical keyboard is either inconvenient or difficult, Intellution has included an on-screen 'virtual keyboard', enabling users to input data via touch screen, or other pointing devices. Leveraging ActiveX technology, iFIX 3.0 users can take advantage of a diverse array of third-party applications and enhance the functionality of their HMI/SCADA applications with maximized reliability and ease of use.

Windows XP compatible
With the introduction of Intellution iFIX 3.0, Emerson's premier HMI/SCADA offering can now fully leverage the advanced technical features of the latest Windows operating system - Windows XP. The application also works with Windows NT and Windows 2000, and features individual user-based and node-based security, configured and synchronized with the security policies inherent to each of the Windows operating systems.
