New Omron HMI Architecture Provides Transparent Access to Information

SCHAUMBURG, IL (June 26, 2002)- Omron's brand-new architecture for HMI, the NS advanced operator interface, can access information from PLCs up to three networks away from a single screen. Information can be accessed from an Ethernet network, a ControllerLink network (our own proprietary network) and up to two serial ports, all simultaneously. In addition, the HMI features a 4 channel video input module to display camera images from the increasingly popular vision inspection sensors. The NS's connectivity benefits the user with network-wide access to data and plays an important role in the user's data strategy. In addition, its ladder monitor tool allows a PLC's ladder program to be monitored from a system menu so the user doesn't have to use a laptop or PC to troubleshoot.

7" (STN), 10" and 12" (TFT) NS-series screens have 256 color displays that incorporate features familiar to a Windows environment, such as list boxes and pop up menus. Its screen program capabilities include recipes, multi-state lamps and switches, macro programming and trend graphs. The NS comes with 4MB of on board memory for screen data and is expandable to 20MB with expansion memory. A compact flash card can be used for screen program transfer, storage of recipe and list box data, and storage of logged data values into common separated writable format. Screen programming is done via the NS Designer software that includes a test mode so screen projects can be tested before loading them to hardware, which saves the user time. Its slim profile measures only 1.9 inches deep to fit easily in machines. The NS is NEMA 4 rated.

NS advanced operator interface's combination of programming power, network connectivity and ease of use makes it an excellent alternative to PC-based HMI in both end user and OEM applications.

The NS advanced operator interface is available from stock starting at $2495. Software starts at $395. For further information, contact: Omron Electronics LLC, 1 Commerce Drive, Schaumburg, IL 60173. Tel.: 800-55-OMRON. Fax: 847-843-8081. Internet: info.omron.com.
