The Future of Horizontal Machining Has Arrived! Introducing the Cincinnati Machine MEGA-150 HMC

CINCINNATI, OH (September 4, 2002)-Cincinnati Machine unveils the future of horizontal machining-the revolutionary new Cincinnati Machine MEGA-150 Horizontal Machining Center, setting new standards in speed, accuracy and stiffness.

Extreme reductions in non-cut times, highly efficient removal of large chip volumes and large job processing capability combine to give the MEGA-150 the highest machine productivity and utilization in its class and the best product value on the market.

The MEGA-150 is standard with X-Y-Z travels of 57.0 x 43.3 x 49.8" (1.450 x 1,100 x 1,265 mm) and is capable of machining parts 51.2" (1,300 mm) in diameter and 59" (1,500 mm) high.

Its fast tool delivery system, featuring 0.9 second tool-to-tool interchange time and tool queuing that eliminates next-tool wait time, drastically reduces parasitic time. In addition, non-value added time is virtually eliminated by the 8.0 second pallet exchange time. The MEGA-150 is being offered with cell and multi-pallet carousel exchange.

Higher metal removal rates are achieved by the MEGA-150's XT option, featuring a new 60 Hp (45 kW) two-range geared, #50 taper or HSK-1OOA spindle with either 6,500 or 10,000 rpm, giving a maximum torque of 845 ft. lbs. (1,146 Nm) or the AP option, offering an integral, high speed HSK-63A spindle with either 15,000 or 21,000 rpm. A tilt spindle for full 5-axis contouring is available in both the XT and AP configurations.

The MEGA-150 is equipped with the powerful, easy-to-use Fanuc 160i-MB dual processing CNC running on the Windows 2000® operating system. Touch-screen technology and a mobile hand-held control provide a user-friendly interface and the rotating CNC console swings between the load station and the operator station for full access and monitoring.

The MEGA-150's B-axis table, offering 25 rpm rotation and a 4,840 lbs. (2,200 kg) payload, enables high-speed processing of heavy workloads. Positioning and contouring configurations as well as square 31.5" (800 mm) and rectangular 31.5" x 39.3"
pallets are available.

Raising accuracy and stiffness to new levels, the MEGA-150's symmetrical design maximizes thermal stability while the dual ballscrew support on all axes, proven THK Caged Ball Linear Motion Guides, and absolute axis feedback enhance accuracies.

Chip handling is optimized by large capacity center trough chip extraction and maintenance-free coolant filtration. Higher machine utilization is achieved by 580 in/sec² (1.5G) acceleration rates as well as 3,150 ipm (80m/min) axis rates in X and Y-axes, and 2,362 ipm (60 m/min) axis rates in Z-axis. The standard 40 tool chain easily handles 66 lb. (30 kg) tools up to 11.8" (300 mm) diameter and 27" (690 mm) long.

Its three-point machine leveling, single piece bed and compact footprint ensures faster installation with no special foundation.
