Hitachi Sigma Multi-function Placement Head Brings Flexibility, High Accuracy to PCB Assembly; Exhibiting at IPC/APEX 2012

Dallas, Texas, USA- The new Sigma G5 compact, modular mounter, offered by The Production Systems Division (PSD) of Hitachi High Technologies America, Inc. (HTA) at APEX, features a unique Multi-function head that greatly enhances the system's flexibility and overall process efficiency.

The head is a 3 Spindle (nozzle) head, equipped with vacuum and mechanical gripper nozzles. It can change or interchange nozzles 'on the fly', depending on production requirements. It's a high accuracy (30μ accuracy) head, which makes it ideal for processes including PoP, and can be used in combination with a flux dipping module for PoP, Die placement, and similarly demanding assembly placement requirements. It can accommodate a range of components from 0603mm (0201") to 55mm²/150x26mm.

Additionally, it can be used for insertion of connectors and devices that require press fit. The head can exert up to 5Kg of insertion force. The Multi-function placement head will be shown on the centerpiece of HTA's exhibit, the flagship Sigma G5 highperformance, compact, modular mounter, available in both High Speed and Flexible High Speed configurations. The G5 features a two‐head placement system that offers the most flexibility in a single high speed head and a multifunction
head; two quick‐change feeder bases that accommodate tape and stick feeders or quick change tray unit with tape feeders; and the industry's first "Overdrive Control System" whereby both heads can pick from each other's component supply and place on the same board simultaneously and without restriction.

The Multi-function head and the Sigma G5 system, in addition to other Hitachi technologies, will be shown at IPC/APEX 2012 in Booth #2440. IPC/Apex 2012 Conference and Exhibition takes place February 28 - March 1 at the San Diego Convention Center, San Diego, California. HTA is a global leader in advanced instrumentation and electronics manufacturing and assembly equipment.
