Original Press Release:

Free-Operating Hinges Satisfy Multiple Needs for Standard and Specialized Enclosures

Concordville, PA, August 5, 2005 -- Two new lines of Southco free-operating hinges offer designers wide-ranging options of fit, style, and affordable functionality for network, telecommunications, computer and industrial cabinets, enclosures and equipment. They also permit 180-degrees of free-swinging motion and provide enhanced mounting and operating attributes for enclosures with formed sheet metal doors.

Most of the fixed-installation style (EH Class) hinges can accommodate doors and frames that are on the same plane. An extended offset hinge style even permits full-door opening in applications where cabinets or enclosures are tightly configured. And an in-line hinge style also satisfies applications in which the door-mounting surface is perpendicular to the frame-mounting surface.

The door-removal corner-hinge style (KH Class) can fit virtually flush into the corner bend of formed sheet metal doors, providing a clean aesthetic look, easy panel preparation and low installed cost. Their independently mounted hinge pins simplify the process of removing doors for unrestricted access to enclosures.

Various models in the two hinge classes can accommodate maximum axial and radial working loads ranging from 1,200 N (270 pounds/foot) to 5,000 N (1,120 pounds/foot). Most of these hinges feature die-cast zinc construction and are available in chrome, black powder coated or custom-color powder coated finishes. Chrome-plated brass hinges are also available. Several hinge styles feature concealed mounting hardware for a better aesthetic presentation, enhanced security and vandal resistance. Through-bolt styles with countersunk holes provide economy and also permit blind-hole installation where there is no access to the rear of the frame.

These new free-operating hinges complement a broad line of Southco specialty hinges for position control and door removal applications. This expanded line of Southco hinges provides greater single-source convenience for application designers, including higher maximum working loads in a wider range of applications.
