High Temperature SMT MLCC suits COTS applications.

Press Release Summary:

Comprising NP0, X7R, X8R, and X8L dielectrics, APS Series satisfies commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) application CV demands and PCB space requirements. Series covers 6 case sizes from 0603–2220, 6 voltages from 16–500 V, and capacitance from 10 pF to 22 µF. Available capacitance tolerances are ±5%, ±10%, and ±20%, and termination options are plated NiSn, 5% minimum lead, Flexiterm® (X7R only), and Flexiterm with 5% min lead. MLCCs exhibit ultralow field failure rate of <1 ppb.

AVX Extends High-Reliability MLCC Series for COTS Applications with Two New High Temperature Dielectrics

Now available in NP0, X7R, X8R, & X8L dielectrics, in addition to a wide variety of case sizes, voltages, capacitance values, & termination finishes, AVX’s APS Series MLCCs exhibit an ultralow field failure rate of <1ppb

GREENVILLE, S.C. — AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of passive components and interconnect solutions, has added high temperature X8R and X8L dielectric components to its high-reliability APS Series multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) for commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications.  Extensively tested using many of the MIL-STD test methods as used in MIL-PRF-55681, which negates the need for customer-specific drawings, APS Series MLCCs exhibit an ultralow field failure rate of <1ppb.  Now available in NP0, X7R, X8R, and X8L dielectrics, in addition to a wider capacitance range than MIL spec parts and a variety of case sizes, voltages, and termination finishes, APS Series surface mount MLCCs satisfy COTS requirements for higher CV demands and PCB space-saving requirements and provide high-reliability performance in a broad range of critical applications, including: military, aviation, and telecommunications.

"Extending our existing line of thoroughly-tested APS Series capacitors with high temperature ceramic X8R and X8L dielectrics allows us to provide our customers in the military and aviation industries with an even more extensive range of trusted, ultra high reliability solutions for use in their most critical applications," said Michael Conway, product marketing manager, AVX.  "We take great pride in remaining actively engaged with our customers and continuously developing new products like these that are specifically designed to meet their ever-evolving needs."

APS Series MLCCs are available in six case sizes spanning 0603 to 2220, six voltages spanning 16V to 500V, and capacitance values spanning 10pF to 22µF.  They are also available in four dielectrics (NP0, X7R, X8R, and X8L), three capacitance tolerances (±5%, ±10%, and ±20%), and four terminations: plated NiSn, 5% minimum lead, and, for X7R MLCCs, Flexiterm®, which delivers improved thermo-mechanical stress resistance, and Flexiterm with 5% minimum lead.

In addition to the various MIL-STD test methods used to ensure the series’ high-reliability <1ppb failure rate, APS Series capacitors are also subjected to AVX’s unique, in-house Maverick lot review system, which eliminates infant mortality failures, as well as to thermal shock testing, 85/85 testing, life testing at 125°C and two times the rated voltage, and 100% visual inspection.  Packaged on 7" or 13" reels, each order comes with a COTS certificate of compliance (C of C).  Lead time for the series is eight to 12 weeks and pricing information for the various part numbers is available upon request.
