Solvay Advanced Polymers Introduces New Generation Of Flame Retardant AMODEL(R) PPA

Three New Grades Now Available in Commercial Volumes

Alpharetta, Ga. -- Solvay Advanced Polymers, L.L.C., today introduced AMODEL FR-4133, FR-6133 and FR-6145, a new generation of high-temperature, flame retardant AMODEL polyphthalamide resins, at this year's National Manufacturing Week, being held from March 18-21, at McCormick Place, in Chicago, Ill. The company expects to roll out the new AMODEL FR grades at a series of trade shows and industry events over the next 12 to 18 months.

AMODEL FR grades are designed for critical electronics and electrical applications, such as connectors, chip capacitors, cell phone components, circuit breakers, contactors, relays, and switches. Of special note is the material's high conductive tracking index (CTI) and glow wire flammability temperature (GWF) performance.

According to Bruce Bersted, a senior product development specialist at Solvay Advanced Polymers, this new series combines the best attributes of previous generations, including robust mechanical properties, high thermal stability and enhanced processability, in a single family of high-temperature polymers.

"These new FR grades are more color stable due to their improved thermal stability when processed at very high temperatures," Bersted said. "In essence, they combine the superior mechanical properties of AMODEL AF-4133 with the outstanding processing
properties of AMODEL AFA-4133," he added.

According to the company, customers may also realize reduced outgassing and moisture pick-up, along with improved electrical properties and thermal capabilities, which can be an advantage for today's lead-free SMT soldering operations. The company offers these new AMODEL FR grades in two hot-water-moldable base resins, 4000 and 6000, and two glass-reinforced levels, 33 and 45%, with heat distortion temperatures up to 300 deg C.

Previously offered in smaller samples for initial testing use, AMODEL FR grades are now available in commercial volumes.
