Lenox Firesight® Kiln Camera Systems Give a Clearer View of the Inner-Workings of a Cement Kiln

Trevose, PA, March 2009 - Lenox Instrument Company, today announced the offering of the FireSight® KILN CAMERA SYSTEM, an air-cooled high temperature camera that provides real-time, color video images, from inside a cement kiln, including the flame, the clinker load and the walls of the furnace. Designed to provide viewing of color images from a cement plant's control room, the Kiln Camera System provides operators with data needed to adjust fuel feed, clinker cooling rates, and other important variables. Normally installed at the upper-left side of the kiln's firing hood, the FireSight® Kiln Camera System views in the same direction as the flame being blown from the burner pipe. Its 90° field of view covers the complete flame on the end of the burner pipe; the sidewalls, top and bottom of the kiln; and the clinker being formed. "The Kiln Camera System enables the control room operator to view into the kiln and to gauge the efficiency of the combustion by monitoring the ignition from the pipe and the length, shape, color, and direction of the flame," said Paul Lang, VP at Lenox Instrument Company. "Product material movement down the kiln can also be observed." The Lenox Kiln Camera System offers durable, air-cooled technology, , backed by a two-year warranty. The high temperature camera is specially designed to survive in environments up to 3000°F (1649°C) and requires a hood penetration of only 2-3/8 inches (61mm). A light volume control feature, a Lenox exclusive, allows the operator from the control room to easily adjust the amount of light transmitted to the camera, eliminating the bloom common with other systems and ensuring high image clarity. "The Lenox Kiln Camera's compressed air cooling system provides reliable performance while using considerably less compressed air than competing systems," said Lang. "In addition, the system features quartz optics that withstand temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) higher than the glass lenses used in other systems." A wall box mounting assembly provides the protective housing for the system and serves as the primary coolant shroud. FireSight® Kiln Cameras can be supplied with a wide variety of directions and fields of view to match specific application requirements. Optional system accessories include an automatic retract system that automatically pulls the Lenox Kiln Camera back from inside the kiln should a loss of cooling occur, preventing possible over - temperature damage to the camera lens assembly; a high efficiency compressed air filter system for removing oil, water and particulates providing clean air to the FireSight system insuring trouble- free performance and a clear view of the combustion. It uses a self-purging coalescing filter and a pressure differential switch, which may be wired to an alarm, letting the operator know when its time to change the filter elements. Flat CRT or Flat LCD monitors and a digital video recorder are also available. Each FireSight® Kiln Camera System is designed, manufactured and serviced in-house by Lenox Instrument Company, and is backed by a two-year warranty.
