High-Strength Hostaform® HS15 POM

Ticona Introduces World's First Copolymer That Delivers Superior Mechanical Properties And Long-Term Stability

Shanghai, China - Ticona Engineering Polymers today introduced high-strength Hostaform® HS15 - the latest addition to its family of acetal copolymers (POM) with enhanced characteristics designed into the polymer's DNA via changes to the backbone chemistry.

Located at Booth W2B01 in the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Pudong, Shanghai, Ticona is showcasing high-strength Hostaform POM, which combines superior mechanical properties with long-term stability and chemical resistance to give customers a competitive edge in developing innovative automotive, fluid handling, sports and leisure, conveying system and consumer applications.

New Hostaform HS15 - Another Advance in Ticona POM Backbone Innovation

New Hostaform HS15 is the world's first copolymer to deliver outstanding mechanical, chemical and thermal properties in one innovative acetal. It offers customers:

o Superior mechanical properties vs. conventional acetal copolymers - up to 10 percent better strength; 10 percent better stiffness; and 50 percent better toughness

o Broadest design space of any acetal POM available today

o Lower costs through improved processing and thermal stability

o Excellent chemical resistance to hot water, automotive fuels, fluids and concentrated alkaline solutions (pH4 to pH14) for new POM applications

"Ticona achieved a full-fledged revolution with Hostaform HS15," said Vincent Notorgiacomo, Hostaform POM product manager - Americas. "This new generation of POM offers features that clearly differentiate it from other copolymers and provides wider design latitude. It's the first acetal copolymer with this set of properties. That's why our near-term plans focus on applications that were impossible for our POM products in the past - ones that were previously addressed using polyamides or metals."

Hostaform HS15 Expands High Performance POM Family

"As the global leader in POM innovation, Ticona scientists continue to significantly expand the application landscape for what was previously possible with conventional POM, introducing high-impact Hostaform S 9364 at Chinaplas 2008; Hostaform POM S 9362 and S 9363 for high productivity at Chinaplas 2009; and now the introduction of high-strength Hostaform HS15 at Chinaplas 2010," said Mervyn Cox, POM product marketing manager - Asia. "With new Hostaform HS15, Ticona expands its customer's design space into applications where POM has never been able to play."

Hostaform HS15 expands the high performance POM family from Ticona:

o Hostaform POM S 9362 And S 9363 For High Productivity

- Up to 40 percent less cooling time for faster cycle times

- Potential for reduced tool downtime from less mold deposit

- Higher heat deflection temperature (HDT) for improved long-term performance

- Higher modulus for more robust parts

- Up to 200 percent better weldline integrity

o Hostaform POM S 9364 For High Impact Performance

- Up to 75 percent improved impact performance

- Up to 300 percent better weldline integrity
