Documentation and Additional Information

The requirement for High Speed Data (HSD) connections within automobiles continues to progress at an ever increasing rate. Camera and display connections, USB and iPod product or device connectivity are becoming more of a factor in the consumer's decision process, which creates new challenges for automotive OEMs. The VDA (Verband der Automobilindustrie) is planning to launch the HSD specification which will help foster the development of future high speed data links. Initially based on the 100 W LVDS protocol, compatibility with other protocols such as GVIF is also covered. To support HSD technology, Tyco Electronics is launching the following products:

HSD - 90-degree Header

The Tyco Electronics 90-degree header is fully compatible with HSD mechanical and electrical requirements as well as with pick-and-place and Pin-in Paste (PiP) reflow technology. EMI shielding is achieved through the pins to the PCB and optionally with the device casing housing shield. Device casing shielding is connected through assembly of the coding cap, so no additional tools are needed.

HSD - USB Module

USB connectivity is achieved using automotive grade components. The Tyco Electronics module has optimized service reliability due to its package design which allows the module to be removed if damaged. The module is connected to the head unit by a HSD assembly. The module's integrated PCB provides the option of adding additional functionality such as extra shielding or illumination of the port.

HSD - Cable Assemblies

A full range of cable assemblies incorporating four-way shielded cable is also available. Ninety- and 180-degree, as well as inline connections will be available to customers' required application length. A sealed connection system for camera applications will be launched in early 2009.
