Alden Products To Introduce Pl-1200 Pulse-Lok(TM) High-Density Medical Instrumentation Connectors At Md&M East In June

(BROCKTON, MA) - May 16, 2005 - Alden Products Company has expanded its Pulse-Lok® line of medical instrumentation connectors and will introduce the high-density PL-1200 Series Connector at June's MD&M East Show. The new connectors feature Alden's signature Pulse-Lok® coupling, a unique push and click auto-latching mechanism that greatly simplifies mating, provides tactile and visual confirmation that the connector pair is securely engaged. The PL-1200 Series offers densities up to 78 contact positions in a 1200-thousandth diameter package and is available in both low-cost disposable and rugged reusable models. The new series also features low-cost receptacle components as well as enhanced and automated wire termination options that aid in reducing the cost of multi-pin disposable catheters by reducing assembly time. These termination options include multi-contact solder pads as well as crimp and poke stamped contacts. Optional integrated passive and active electronic components identify and limit the use of single-use disposable catheters.

"Emerging medical disciplines within electrophysiology and electrosurgery are spawning an entirely new category of disposable instrumentation", says Gordon Udall, Vice President of Marketing & Sales at Alden. "Because those instruments must be disposed of, associated connectors must be manufactured very cost efficiently."

To meet that imperative, Alden limits the number of components in the disposable housing of its connectors and uses the most cost-efficient contacts - all while maintaining critical performance measures. And because today's cutting edge instruments require an increasing number of circuits, Alden offers a high-density line of connectors with up 78 pins...more than any connector on the market today. All this, coupled with Alden's patented Pulse-Lok ® auto coupling technology makes these new disposable quick connectors idea for medical device manufacturers.

"We believe that the PL-1200 series represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide manufacturers with innovative connector solutions that address a wide range of needs, not just in medical device manufacturing, but in broad instrumentation connectivity as well," says Alden's Director of Product Innovation, Christian Behning. "And our performance-engineered custom cable assemblies just add the icing to the cake."

Ideal for a wide range of medical device applications, the PL-1200 Series Connectors are EtO, gamma, and steam sterilizable and are sealed to IP-67 standards.
