Original Press Release:

New Ex Pendant Light Fittings for Hazardous Gas and Dust Environments

A new range of Ex pendant light fittings for HID lamps has been launched, which are robust but compact and lightweight, making them ideal for use in hazardous gas (Zone 2) and hazardous dust (Zone 21 and 22) environments.

The new NVMV series Ex pendant light fittings from COOPER Crouse-Hinds are explosion protected light fittings in IEC metallic design, which are suitable for use in harsh or hazardous industrial environments, particularly where there are high levels of moisture or dust, or where there is a risk of mechanical hazards or impact. The luminaires are designed and approved in accordance with IEC/EN 60079, which covers the latest requirements for Ex apparatus.

The NVMV series is available in two sizes: a small enclosure version with power outputs ranging from 70W up to 250W. A large enclosure version is also available with power outputs from 250W up to 400W. All versions can be used for HPS lamps and MH lamps.

The NVMV pendant light fittings can be installed as wall, ceiling or pole-mounted units, at low or medium heights. Due to their high degree of protection (IP66) and the large permissible ambient temperature range (-45 deg C to +55 deg C), the series can be used in almost any harsh industrial environment.

Target applications for the new light fittings include chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food processing, grain, bakeries, oil refineries, waste water treatment plants, metal (steel and aluminium) processing plants, coal plants, wood processing, marine and offshore platforms. The light fittings are also suitable for illuminating process or storage areas, as well as corridors and transport routes.

Chemical and UV resistant materials are used in the design of the light fittings. The relatively low weight of the light fittings also means easier mounting and handling. Replacement is also made easier, resulting in reduced maintenance life costs. A variety of optional external globes and reflectors (symmetrical and asymmetrical) are available, which means customers can select the appropriate light distribution for their application. Safety guards are also available.

Gordon Low, OEM Sales Engineer at COOPER Crouse-Hinds (UK) Ltd comments: "The NVMV Ex pendant light fittings are designed to our usual high quality. This particular series incorporates a hinged top hat with single point fixing. The control gear housing hinges on the mounting and termination cover and is held in position by just a single screw. This enables easy access and closure of the lamp for installation and maintenance purposes."

"A Quick-Click option is also available, which is designed to increase safety, simplify mounting and installation and reduce the time required to maintain the luminaire. After connecting the wires, the Quick-Clip holds the weight of the housing, supporting the luminaire whilst the cover screw is tightened," explains Low.

Housings for the NVMV series are made from copper-free aluminium with epoxy finish, providing excellent corrosion resistance. Globes are internally fluted and are heat and impact resistant. Reflectors are made from Krydon® (fibre glass reinforced polyester) and so offer high levels of reflectivity. Safety guards are in copper-free aluminium or stainless steel.

As Gordon Low concludes: "Compared to other competing Ex pendant light fittings currently available on the market, the NVMV series utilise high power factor ballasts, with a minimum PF of 0.9. The lamps are also much lighter and more compact, making it easier in terms of installation, transportation and maintenance. The hinge hook is also unique to our product, which also further simplifies mounting and replacement for the installer and end user."
