Hertzler Systems Wins Clean Air Award for Installation of Solar Panels

GOSHEN, Ind. – Hertzler Systems, Inc., received the Partners for Clean Air Award for 2014 today from the Michiana Area Council of Governments. (MACOG), an intergovernmental agency for northern Indiana.

Last year Hertzler completed the installation of 48 solar panels at its Goshen location and plugged into Northern Indiana Public Service Company’s (NIPSCO) Feed-in-Tariff program that buys back electrical power from customers that generate their own clean energy. The energy generated by Hertzler’s solar panels feeds electricity directly into the NIPSCO power grid, generating an estimated 13,317 kWh per year and providing the equivalent of 44 percent of Hertzler’s current yearly electricity consumption.

Over the next 25 years, the system is expected to save 522,275 pounds of CO2 emissions, 1,676 pounds of smog-producing NOx, 1,517 pounds of acid rain-producing SOx, and 103 pounds of asthma-producing particulates. All of this is the equivalent of taking an average car off the road for 849,794 miles, or planting 4.5 acres of trees.

The Partners for Clean Air Program is designed “to help educate and promote cleaning our region’s air. Through its annual awards luncheon , the Clean Air program recognizes businesses, individuals and organizations in our region that do their part,” stated MACOG . “We conduct research throughout the year and take nominations from members and partners for organizations they believe merit this recognition.” Hertzler was nominated by Goshen city officials.

“This award came as a surprise to us,” said Evan Miller, president and CEO of Hertzler. “We didn’t know we had been nominated. But it’s rewarding that people see the value in what we’re doing. Our investment is significant and our impact is significant.”

Hertzler Systems provides automated statistical process control (SPC) software for a wide variety of business and manufacturing concerns to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their operations and the quality of their products and services.
