Hendrickson's STEERTEK Named the Standard Front Steer Axle on International® ProStar® and TranStar® Truck Models

WOODRIDGE, Ill. - Hendrickson Truck Suspension Systems officials announce the innovative, weight saving STEERTEK front steer axle is now standard on International® ProStar® and TranStar® vehicle models. STEERTEK, the first fabricated front steer axle in the industry, became the standard offering on the International® LoneStar® model in 2008.

Based on proprietary design and manufacturing technology, STEERTEK's unique fabricated design saves up to 27 pounds compared to traditional I-beam axles and provides outstanding ride and stability for a premium combination of weight savings and comfort.

"We are pleased with International's decision to upgrade their standard position axle to STEERTEK, our lightweight alternative to traditional I-beam axles" says Doug Sanford, vice president and general manager for Hendrickson's Truck Systems Group. "As truck weights continue to increase, Hendrickson remains committed to reliable, weight saving options."

STEERTEK's rigid, box-shaped cross section resists horizontal, vertical and twisting forces more effectively than traditional I-beams, while the patented two-piece knuckle assembly simplifies kingpin bushing serviceability. In addition, integrated steering arm and tie rod attachments increase strength and further reduce weight, providing greater durability and helping to reduce maintenance costs. The unique manufacturing process of the STEERTEK axle allows for greater design flexibility to meet the varied industry applications and also contributes to STEERTEK's significant weight savings compared to traditional forged axles.

Designed for optimal weight savings, STEERTEK is available as part of Hendrickson's SOFTEK® system featuring MONOLEAF springs. SOFTEK provides a weight savings up to 92 pounds. For a cost effective solution, STEERTEK can be paired with Hendrickson's 2-leaf springs, an industry standard. Customers looking for enhanced ride quality can spec International's MaxxPower(TM) front air suspension system, which utilizes the STEERTEK axle and provides premium comfort. Available in capacities up to 14,600 pounds, STEERTEK is approved for on-highway and medium-duty truck, bus and motor home applications.
