Hendrickson Launches Lightweight INTRAAX® AAT with Large Diameter Axle(TM)


CANTON, Ohio - Hendrickson Trailer Suspension Systems recently launched a new, lighter weight INTRAAX® AAT integrated trailer suspension system featuring the Large Diameter Axle(TM) (LDA).

"Hendrickson integrated the benefits of LDA into all INTRAAX AAT products including 23K, 25K and 30K models," remarks Keith McComsey, program manager vocational systems at Hendrickson Trailer Suspension Systems.

The switch to LDA increases the outer diameter from today's five-inch axle to 5-3/4 inches while slightly reducing the axle wall thickness. This reduction combined with the increased diameter creates a more efficient use of material, increasing axle strength while reducing weight. The new AAT LDA delivers as much as a fifteen percent increase in bending and torsional stiffness compared to its five-inch counterpart.

Since 2006, Hendrickson has utilized the advantages of the proven capabilities of the 5-3/4 inch axle on its INTRAAX AANT 23K primary suspension. The integration of LDA on AAT 23K models allows customers to continue using a wide bushing pivot connection while enjoying a nineteen pound weights savings over current five-inch AAT 23K axle models.

To accommodate more robust applications, AAT 25K and 30K models will combine the LDA technology with a thicker axle wall for applications that require the higher 25,000 pound axle rating. This thicker axle wall combined with Hendrickson's patented axle-beam connection boasts a weight advantage of 30 pounds over current INTRAAX AAT 25K/30K.
