New Speedglas® Flexview with Adflo® Welding Helmet/Respirator

Combines Retractable Auto-Darkening Lens with Powered Air-Purifying Respirator; Full Protection For Welding and Low Light Weld Prep

TWINSBURG, OH -August 11, 2003 - Hornell, Inc. today announced a new welding helmet/respirator system. The new Speedglas® FlexView with Adflo® combines a retractable auto-darkening Speedglas lens with an advanced powered air purifying respirator (PAPR). Full eye, face and respiratory protection is provided for both welding and very low light weld preparation conditions. The user simply lifts up the spring-mounted lens assembly for weld prep. The spring holds the auto-darkening lens securely on top of the helmet, providing a big, clear view behind a clear polycarbonate protection lens.

The clear lens allows for precision grinding and cleaning, the careful alignment of electrodes and the inspection of newly-completed welds, all with constant eye and face protection, even in the darkest workshop.

The clear lens meets the ANSI Z87.1 industrial eye and face protection standard, which does not recommend "...filter or tinted lenses that restrict light transmittance..." when chipping or grinding (American National Standard Z87.1).

The HWR 9000 FV incorporates the Adflo powered air-purifying respirator, which creates a positive atmosphere of filtered air within the helmet that is 25 times cleaner than the air outside of the helmet.

The respirator's design has several exclusive features, including a "stackable" filter configuration. The respirator is always used with a High Efficiency (HE) particle filter; the HE filter can be "stacked" onto an optional Adflo cartridge for additional protection against organic, sulfur dioxide, chlorine, and hydrogen chloride gases/vapors. In effect, it's two systems in one, allowing increased user flexibility to adapt to changing welding applications. The user can selectively replace either the HE particle filter or the Adflo OV/SD/CL/CH cartridge as needed; both filters do not have to be changed at the same time. No tools are needed to remove and replace any of the system's user-serviceable parts.

Complete systems are available with one of five different Speedglas 9000 auto-darkening welding lenses. All Speedglas helmets and lenses meet the ANSI Z87.1 standard for eye and face protection. Respirator approval is NIOSH 42 CFR 84.
