Heidelberg Announces Milestone Press Installation for New Jersey Print Shop

KENNESAW, Ga. - November 19, 2007 - Heidelberg USA today announced the successful installation of a new Speedmaster XL 105 press at FLM Graphics, Fairfield, NJ, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. The company reports 25 percent less make-ready time and 35 percent faster run speeds since the press was installed in April of this year.

"The greatest advantage of the XL 105 is the improved speed, coupled with no degradation in the quality of the work," said Peter Colahan, FLM Graphics' senior vice president, director of commercial print operations. "Quality is actually enhanced."

The six-color press with coater is helping FLM Graphics accommodate much larger runs, on specialty and high-end commercial materials the company produces for its customers. The most technologically advanced and productive 40-inch press on the market, Heidelberg's Speedmaster XL 105 has real production speeds of 18,000 sheets per hour even on a paper format of 75 x 105 cm (29.1 x 41.3 inches). The larger format allows for multiple-ups on one sheet, maximizing productivity and results.

"This is a huge leap forward in technology," said Colahan. "We believe the technology and quality of the XL 105 will set the new standard for high-end, multi-color sheetfed printing." The company chose the XL 105 design because they view it as a platform for future larger format presses.

The XL 105 prints on a wide range of substrates, from onion skin to 40-point cardboard, which is a huge advantage when printing point-of-purchase materials - providing FLM Graphics with even more options to offer their customers. Sheet travel is newly configured on the XL 105, and along with a new AirTransfer system, this press feature ensures that sheets are mark-free and completely register-accurate at speeds as high as 18,000 sph.

The Preset Plus Feeder is equipped with a single suction belt and is free of roller and brush wheels. The clean infeed table ensures sheets are fed stress-free, aligned precisely and travel smoothly. All material air adjustments are preset and storable, ensuring easy job recalls.

As FLM Graphics has discovered, advanced technology does not necessarily mean complicated operation. The Prinect CP2000 Center on the Speedmaster XL 105 helps manage the entire throughput of each job created - from presetting to delivery - all from the touch of one button. The user-friendly operating screen lets FLM Graphics concentrate on what it does best without having to worry about timely job changes.

According to FLM Graphics President Vince Fiorello, "FLM Graphics' clients love the fact that they can come to one source for this great range of high-quality printing and imaging solutions. Our Heidelberg offset pressroom, centered around the XL 105, is the foundation of this offering. It sets the standard for quality and performance. And with it, we can provide the highest possible quality to our discriminating print buyers in a way that is faster, better and more cost-effective than ever before."

Founder and CEO Frank L. Misischia attributes FLM Graphics' success to its mantra: "Many Media, One Commitment." Staying up-to-date with the latest technologies has allowed the company to deliver on this promise.

FLM Graphics has been a loyal Heidelberg customer for more than 30 years. The company began in 1972 as a typesetting and reprographic company, expanding into the sheetfed printing industry in 1976. In 1986, FLM moved to its current 45,000-sq.-ft. facility in Fairfield, NJ, and has since added two locations in New York City and Princeton, NJ.
