These are some of the new features that Volvo Trucks in North America is now presenting at the renowned Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, Kentucky, USA.

Volvo VNX is the name of Volvo Trucks’ powerful new heavy-haul tractor for the North American market. It is intended for demanding assignments such as hauling timber and heavy machinery, and it is designed for applications up to 102 tonnes (225,000 pounds). The Volvo 13-litre compression-ignition engine utilises a small amount of diesel fuel to ignite the LNG. The D13-LNG also provides about a 20 percent fuel efficiency improvement compared with spark-ignition natural gas engines and delivers diesel-like durability and performance in terms of horsepower and torque. Volvo VNL daycabs powered by the Volvo D13-LNG engine will be available for order during the second half of 2014.

Volvo I-Shift becomes standard equipment

Volvo’s automated I-Shift transmission is now fitted as standard to all North American Volvo trucks powered by Volvo engines. Demand for I-Shift has increased considerably for several years. In 2012, about one in every two Volvo trucks in North America was equipped with I-Shift. Globally, Volvo Trucks has sold more than 300,000 I-Shift units, and today around 70 percent of all delivered Volvo trucks are specified with I-Shift.

“Volvo I-Shift is a tremendous tool to help combat rising fuel costs and improve driver productivity and safety. I-Shift has also proved its worth in attracting, training and retaining drivers,” said Göran Nyberg.

New technologies to increase uptime

Volvo Trucks is also displaying at MATS a wide range of technical solutions and services that aim to boost vehicle uptime. This includes, among much else, a number of tools that simplify and shorten troubleshooting, diagnostics and repairs. The services available include Remote Diagnostics and Volvo Uptime Protection Plan, which offers registered customers a reimbursement for each day up to five for each warrantable engine repair that is not completed within 24 hours from the time of diagnosis.
