Heating System targets long-distance pipelines up to 15 miles.

Press Release Summary:

Using single power supply, Skin-Effect Heating System provides freeze protection, temperature maintenance, and heat-up. Small steel tube containing skin-effect electric cable is banded onto pipe to transfer conductive heating directly to pipe wall. Heat input can be adjusted up to 300°F to handle range of thermal viscosities, including water, crude or refined oils, steam, and variety of chemicals. With no moving parts, system is suited for above ground, buried, or submerged pipes.

Chromalox Launches New Skin-Effect Heating System Designed for Long Pipe Runs of Up to 15 Miles

Cost-effective option for chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas industries

PITTSBURGH, PA - Chromalox, a leading manufacturer of electric heat and control products, has introduced a new Skin-Effect Heating System designed for long-distance pipelines up to 15 miles in length. Because it uses a single power supply, the Skin-Effect Heating System provides a cost-effective alternative for freeze protection, temperature maintenance and heat-up, particularly in remote areas where installation and maintenance are more complex and expensive.

Typical applications include tank farms and storage terminals as well as long-distance piping between processing facilities in oil and gas, refining, chemical, and similar industries. The system includes a small steel tube, containing a skin-effect electric cable, which is banded onto the pipe. The cable and tube transfer conductive heating directly to the wall of the process pipe. Supply connections are made in special boxes. This method eliminates the need for additional heating equipment, such heat exchangers, circulation heaters or conventional heat trace.

"Our Skin-Effect Heating System addresses the need in process industries for a cost-effective way to protect and manage long runs of pipe with minimal maintenance needs," said Mark Wheeler, Chromalox Product Manager - Systems. "In addition to reducing installation and maintenance costs, the system reduces the number of heating circuits required, resulting in lower control panel costs and simpler heating operation."

Heat input can be adjusted up to 300o F (150o C) to handle a range of thermal viscosities, including water, crude or refined oils, steam and a variety of chemicals. The Skin-Effect Heating System can be used in pipes that are above ground, buried or submerged. With no moving parts, the system requires minimal maintenance. The system can be used with potentially corrosive processes and can be certified for hazardous areas use.
