Heated Transfer Pump prevents clogs.

Press Release Summary:

With heating element wrapped around outer surface, Heated Transfer Pump provides uniform heat to inner portion of pump to prevent cooling of temperature-sensitive materials conveyed through gravity fed transfer lines. Unit has max operating temperature of 375°F and can transfer tar, wax, glue, and potting compounds. Pumps operate in 120, 240, or 480 V systems, have output of 1-50 gpm at 100 psi max, and are available in bronze, cast iron, or stainless steel.

Sta-Warm Electric Company Introduces Heated Transfer Pumps

Electrically Heated Transfer Pump Improves Plant Productivity and Employee Safety

Ravenna, OH - June 4, 2008 - Sta-Warm Electric Co. introduced a new Heated Transfer Pump designed to increase safety and productivity of plant personnel. This new pump is designed to eliminate clogging and freezing of temperature sensitive materials conveyed through gravity fed transfer lines in manufacturing facilities. By wrapping the pump's outer surface with a heating element, the Heated Transfer Pump provides the application of uniform heat to the inner portion of the pump, preventing the cooling of temperature sensitive materials that freeze or clog transfer lines.

When a leading manufacturer of casting compounds asked about improving their productivity and increasing employee safety, Brian Borthwick, the President of Sta-Warm Electric, saw an opportunity. "My customer's employees were hand carrying 5 gallon buckets of heated material throughout the plant, including up a set of access stairs to a heated holding tank. The process was cumbersome, and it presented a potential safety hazard when employees slipped and fell. A typical gravity feed piping system was considered, but wouldn't work due to the elevated position of the holding tank."

Sta-Warm engineers specialize in heated tanks and other equipment to store and dispense temperature sensitive materials such as adhesives, wax, pitch, tar, and plastisols. "What our customer needed was a heated transfer pump, "says Borthwick. "The problem was finding a commercially available heated transfer pump for industrial use. We researched the internet, and found nothing."

Borthwick's team of engineers developed a "heated pump" using the proven Sta-Warm method used to heat tanks, dispensing pots, pipe, and valves for over 80 years. An electric heating element was wrapped carefully and closely around the pump. This heating element provides consistent, uniform heat. Maintaining the pump at a consistently warm temperature allows the heated casting compound to pass through the pump to the holding area without freezing or clogging.

"The results were so good, we decided to add the custom solution to our product line," says Borthwick. "My customer's production is up, accidents have been eliminated, and Sta-Warm has a new product to offer. It's a win-win for all involved."
