DuraSeal Heat-Shrinkable Splices and Terminals Go Beyond Basics

HARRISBURG, Pa., June 27, 2003 - Raychem DuraSeal heat-shrinkable splices and terminals from Tyco Electronics provide engineers with a premium performance alternative to entry-level heat shrinkable terminals. DuraSeal heat-shrinkable splices and terminals insulate and protect electrical connections from mechanical abuse, wire pull-out and abrasion. They also serve as an effective wire strain relief. Additionally, DuraSeal splices and terminals are sealed and resist water, salt spray and debris. This product is suitable for many OEM applications as well as maintenance, repair, overhaul and general electrical installation applications. Compared to entry level heat-shrinkable splices and terminals, DuraSeal splices and terminals provide additional impact resistance and abrasion resistance.

DuraSeal heat-shrinkable splices and terminals are available in several configurations including butt splices, fork terminals, ring terminals, push-on terminals, tabs, pins and bullet terminals. The terminals accept 22 through 10 AWG wire.

The dual-wall, adhesive-lined nylon insulation shrinks at a 2:1 ratio and is color coded to help identify the proper wire size for a given terminal. The insulation resists diesel fuel, brake fluid, antifreeze and motor oil among others. Operating temperature is -55 deg. C to 125 deg. C.

DuraSeal heat-shrinkable splices and terminals are terminated with a two step process. First, the terminal and wire are prepared and a crimp tool (Raychem AD-1522) crimps the terminal to the wire. Then, a heat gun is directed at the splice until the terminal insulation is fully recovered and the adhesive flows.

Pricing for a splice suitable for the 16-14 AWG is $0.20 per piece at the 5000 piece quantity level. Delivery is 2 weeks.
