Corning Cable Systems Introduces Fast Heat-Shrink Oven

New oven enables heat-shrink times of less than 20 seconds HICKORY, N.C. - Corning Cable Systems, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, introduces its new fast heat-shrink oven. The oven enables shrink times of 20 seconds or less and uses approximately 50 percent of the energy of standard heat-shrink ovens, thereby increasing splicer battery life. The oven's innovative design utilizes radiant heating technology to rapidly shrink heat-shrink splice protectors. Heat radiation is emitted from a heating element onto an elliptical mirror. The fiber with heat-shrink installed is then place in the focal point of the mirror. The result is a faster, more energy efficient process. The heat-shrink oven is available with Corning Cable Systems OptiSplice(TM) Premier M90i Fusion Splicer and the X77 14K Series Fusion Splicers, and is also available as a stand-alone unit. The oven is designed for installation of common single-fiber and up to 12-fiber ribbon heat-shrink splice protectors. Corning Cable Systems' fast heat-shrink oven features fully automated software control from the OptiSplice Premier M90i Fusion Splicer and X77 14K Fusion Splicers, and manual control is available for stand-alone operation for use with any fusion splicer. A light emitting diode (LED) status display indicates heating, cooling and time for removal.
