Heat Exchanger tolerates thermal variances.

Press Release Summary:

Suitable for applications involving high temperature and large temperature differentials, WPX Welded Plate Heat Exchanger can cover 6,000 square meter surface area and reach pressures up to 1,015 psi. Heat transfer elements allow minor local movements to relieve thermal stresses. Cross-counter-flow heat transfers through corrugated stamped sheets designed to optimize transfer coefficients. Heat exchanger is suited for variety of boiling, condensing, or single-phase flow regimes.

Chart Expands Its Heat Exchanger Product Line

Cleveland, Ohio - October 17, 2006 - Chart Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: GTLS) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Chart Energy & Chemicals, Inc. ("Chart E&C") has extended its Brazed Aluminum Heat Exchanger ("BAHX") product line with the development and successful initial installation of an advanced new Welded Plate Heat Exchanger ("WPX"). The extended product line enables Chart E&C to offer solutions for both high temperature and large temperature differentials that reach beyond the typical cryogenic applications serviced by its BAHX product line. With over 50 years of experience, Chart E&C is a world leader in heat exchanger technology.

Chart E&C's new WPX are tolerant to thermal variances and cyclical operation. The key to the outstanding performance of its WPX in these areas is the exchanger's basic design. The heat transfer elements in a WPX allow minor local movements to relieve thermal stresses. The cross-counter-flow heat transfers through corrugated stamped sheets that are used to improve heat transfer coefficients. The new WPX can cover a 6,000 square meter surface area per unit and reach pressures up to 70 bar (1,015 psi). Chart E&C's WPX can be used in a variety of boiling, condensing or single phase flow regimes and be accompanied by high pressure, high temperature, and significant temperature differentials. The number of passes and passage width incorporated into the new WPX allow designers to optimize required surface area with the allowable pressure drop.

Since the development of the WPX product offering in late 2005, Chart has secured several orders to deliver ASME stamped WPX supporting several refinery and processing projects.

Chart E&C brings together tailored products such as Vacuum Insulated Piping for transferring LNG, Core-in-Kettle® heat exchangers and BAHX that provide industry-leading heat transfer capabilities and low approach temperatures, and Cold Boxes that offer a complete single source package containing heat exchangers, piping and other processing equipment in one complete unit. Chart E&C's vast product offering allows its customers to benefit from single source supply.

Chart Industries, Inc is a leading independent global manufacturer of highly engineered equipment used in the production, storage and end-use of hydrocarbon and industrial gases. The majority of the Chart's products are used throughout the liquid gas supply chain for purification, liquefaction, distribution, storage and end-use applications, the largest portion of which are energy-related. Chart has domestic operations located in eight states and an international presence in Australia, China, the Czech Republic, Germany and the United Kingdom.
