Health & Safety Efforts Recognised - All TMHE's Forklift Factories Receive OHSAS 18001 Certificate

With over 76,000 m2 of factory space and 1,450 employees working at its factory in Mjölby, Sweden, Toyota Material Handling Europe (TMHE)'s truck manufacturing facility is one of the largest in the world. The production site, BT Products AB and TMHE Parts Operation produces around 55,000 powered trucks and 70,000 hand pallet trucks, as well as holding over 40,000 spare parts ready for immediate worldwide delivery. Last month, TMHE's factory received OHSAS 18001 certification, a great achievement for the company.

The OHSAS 18001 is an Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series for health and safety management systems and helps organisations to control their occupational health and safety risks.

"We prioritise and take responsibility for ensuring that our employees work in a safe and healthy environment. Providing a safe and healthy workplace has always been part of the Toyota philosophy - and this enables us to deliver the best products and services to our customers," says Andres Claesson, President of BT Products AB.

"I would like to thank the project group: they managed this complex project in a relatively short time and found constructive and creative solutions, such as developing the 'Safety Dojo', an in-house safety and risk assessment training program, to meet the OHSAS 18001 requirements."

In 2007, the Toyota Industries Group launched its first 'Safety Dojo' in Japan, with the clear goal of creating an accident-free working environment through education and training. All three TMHE factories have a 'Safety Dojo' where employees receive compulsory training on safety risks and factory regulations.

* TMHE´s factories in Ancenis, France, and Bologna, Italy, received OHSAS 18001 certification in 2009.
