Head and Neck Restraint Device Gets the Green Flag

SFI 38.1-certified Hutchens Hybrid approved by NASCAR as available option for drivers beginning July 13

MOORESVILLE, N.C., Feb 7 / -- Safety Solutions and LFT Technologies today announced the approval by NASCAR of their new Hutchens Hybrid (Hybrid) head and neck restraint as an available option for all NASCAR touring series drivers. Effectively immediately, the Hybrid will be available for use for drivers during private testing. Beginning July 13, the device will be allowed for use during actual competition. With this approval, the Hybrid now joins the HANS Device as the only head and neck restraint systems allowed by NASCAR for use by their drivers.

The Hybrid easily passed the rigorous SFI 38.1 testing process with impressive angular impact numbers. The Hybrid then exceeded the stringent new NASCAR head and neck restraint criteria, the most in-depth ever. As a result, Safety Solutions and LFT Technologies now have three of the five SFI 38.1- certified head and neck restraints.

"While our R3 and Hutchens II devices meet all SFI 38.1 safety criteria and enjoy widespread use within other national sanctions like NHRA, IHRA, ARCA, SCCA, IMCA, APBA, HSR, Porsche Club and USAC, the Hybrid represents the next evolution of safety technology in head and neck restraint systems," said Trevor Ashline, president of Safety Solutions. "We're thrilled with NASCAR's approval of the Hybrid, which will now allow drivers at all levels of racing access to the very best head and neck restraint systems on the market. Since the Hybrid has the OK from NASCAR to be used in private testing now, the July 13 start date will allow us sufficient time to work with teams in practice situations and develop appropriate product inventory levels to meet the needs of the NASCAR drivers."

The Hybrid's patented technology is a unique adaptation of the R3 technology with increased shoulder belt interaction and a shorter back. To secure the system to the driver, the restraint uses a combination of the R3 chest strap and a front buckle strap that hooks into the top of the seat belt buckle system as opposed to coming up between the legs. This arrangement produces a far more comfortable and stable restraint that excels in angular and multiple impact situations. The Hybrid uses multiple load paths to redirect the head loads, and a combination of carbon fiber and straps to make the most secure device ever.
