Harvel's Unique UV Resistant Tubing Selected by Ternion Bio to Build Photobioreactors

(Easton, Pa.) -- As a result of extensive research, Ternion Bio Industries has selected EnviroKing(TM), a unique UV resistant clear PVC piping by Harvel® Plastics, Inc., as a key component in the manufacturer of its distinct, patent-pending photobioreactor system.

Ternion Bio's advanced photobioreactor technology captures carbon dioxide emissions and processes them to serve as the catalyst for the growth of algae, which then becomes the raw material for a wide range of beneficial products.

"EnviroKing UV ThinWall 4-inch pipe provided an additional 11 percent better growth environment than any other pipe we tested," says Chris Schuring, Ternion Bio's chief operations officer. "In the ability to be used as a scalable product, we feel it has no issue that would make the product unavailable for scaled systems. EnviroKing is the standard by which we will measure all others, and we look to use this pipe in all of our scaled Photo BioReactors." A comprehensive case study about the development of Ternion's photobioreactor system is available at EnviroKingUV.com.

A clear PVC piping that is suitable for exposure to sunlight, EnviroKing UV has a unique UV blocking technology that reduces harmful ultraviolet light wavelengths from penetrating the plastic while allowing beneficial wavelengths through. It's a cost-effective solution for photobioreactor use and other outdoor applications exposed to sunlight where transparency is required.

"EnviroKing UV was developed to meet the demands of innovative technologies related to the renewable energy market and other emerging green industries," says Bill Weaver, Harvel's director of technical services. "It's ideally suited for a wide range of outdoor applications including containment vessels for the commercialization of micro algae (photobioreactors), biofuel processing, carbon capture and recycling, process R&D, filtration, and sight glass."

Harvel EnviroKing UV possesses the well-known benefits of rigid PVC such as exceptional corrosion resistance; smooth interior walls for unimpeded flow and reduced sediment buildup; fast, reliable solvent-welded connections; good pressure-bearing capability; and ease of handling and installation. All of these important attributes are now available in a unique transparent product with UV stability.
