Overview
Upgrade the primary hard drive of your ThinkPad® A, T, R, and X30
Series laptops with the ThinkPad 80 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive option.
For additional storage and backup capability, use the optional 2nd HDD Adapter for Ultrabay(TM) 2000 (08K6068) to install the ThinkPad 80 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive in the:
o Ultrabay 2000 media bay in the ThinkPad A, T20/T30, and R40
Series laptops
o X3 UltraBase media slice for the X30 Series laptops
o ThinkPad Dock and ThinkPad Dock II media bay
For additional storage and backup capability, use the optional 2nd HDD Adapter for Ultrabay Slim (62P4554) to install the ThinkPad 80 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive in the:
o X4 UltraBase Dock media slice for the X40 Series laptops
o Ultrabay Enhanced media bay in the R50 Series laptops
o Ultrabay Slim media bay in the ThinkPad T40 Series laptops
Incorporating the IBM Drive Noise Suppression System (DNSS), this
new hard drive offers reduced noise levels compared to previous
generation hard drives without DNSS. DNSS replaces the traditional ball-bearing design in previous models with the fluid dynamic bearing spindle motor technology and voice coil motor dampening enhancements. These efforts result in acoustical noise reduction, improved shock tolerance, and improved reliability.
The ThinkPad 80 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive features IBM's magnetic
coating technology, nicknamed pixie dust. Pixie dust technology enables HDDs to store up to four times more data per square inch of disk area as previous HDDs without this technology.
This new ThinkPad hard drive balances the requirements of capacity, performance, size, and reliability to meet the exacting
standards of ThinkPad customers.
