Kanguru Solutions Adds Built-In Compression Feature to USB Flash Drive, Doubles Drive Capacity

Millis, Mass. 'May 26, 2004' Kanguru Solutions today unveiled a new built-in data compression feature and new 4GB capacity for their KanguruMicro Drive 2.0, the company's longstanding USB2.0 flash drive.

The built-in data compression feature, available in all KanguruMicro Drive 2.0 capacities, enables a computer user to easily double their storage capabilities.

"As the USB Flash Drive market has become more competitive, we wanted to find a way to address our customers desire for more storage capacity in a cost effective manner. I think with our KanguruGuard Compression feature, we have achieved this goal," said Nate Cote, vice president of product management for Kanguru Solutions. "KanguruGuard effectively doubles the storage capacity of the KanguruMicro Drive, so when you purchase a 128MB drive, you are getting 256MB worth of compressed space. With our new 4GB drive, you can actually store as much as 8GB of compressed data."

The KanguruMicro Drive2.0 also contains security features built into the drive as well. Both the compression and encryption features are built into the device in the form of two special folders. One folder, called "Zip", automatically compresses any data stored within it, doubling or even tripling the storage capacity of the drive. The other folder, called "Secret", allows any data that is placed into it to become both compressed and encrypted, requiring a secure password for data access.

This drive is equipped with 128-bit encryption; however; DES, Triple DES and Blowfish encryption formats are available to the customer with this product, upon request.

Measuring just 3 inches in length and weighing only 21g, the Kanguru Micro Drive 2.0 is an excellent storage solution for mobile users. Starting at $34.95, it is available in capacities ranging from 32MB to 4GB. It works with Windows, Macintosh and Linux, offers plug and play capabilities, and is driverless with most operating systems. It also requires no external power and is backwards compatible with USB1.1. Additionally, an optional desktop docking station is available for added convenience. The Kanguru Guard features work with Windows operating systems only and compression percentage may vary by file type.
