New Record-Breaking Seagate Solutions Deliver Highest Capacity and Reliability Ever for the Enterprise

Solutions Range From Low-Cost-Per-Gigabyte & High Capacity to Cutting-Edge I/O Performance & Reliability

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., June 7 / / -- Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX) today announced its latest hard drives to join the industry's most celebrated range of enterprise solutions. Complementing the recently announced Cheetah 15K.5 series disc drive, Seagate's new Savvio 10K.2 and Barracuda ES drives are uniquely optimized for a variety of storage requirements in the enterprise.

"The enterprise continues to serve as the backbone of storage for the world's data, with an information reach that extends from online content on PCs and notebooks, to information stored on PVRs, gaming systems, and personal hand-held devices," said Sherman Black, Seagate senior vice president and general manager, Enterprise Computing. "Seagate's latest solutions provide a significant boost in capacity and reliability that far exceed prior generations in meeting the needs of our OEM and channel customers who in turn serve IT professionals."

Savvio 10K.2 - The World's Most Reliable Enterprise Drive is also Seagate's Coolest
Seagate's second-generation 2.5-inch enterprise class disc drive, the Savvio 10K.2, delivers high I/O transaction performance with world-record 1.6 million hour MTBF reliability and up to 146GB capacity. With ultra-low power consumption that has dropped an average of 15% over its prior generation, and a size that is 70% smaller than conventional 3.5-inch drives, the Savvio 10K.2 makes possible the integration of more drives into smaller chassis sizes to enable storage systems to run cooler, faster, and more reliably than ever.

"Square footage constraints and cooling efficiencies are two concerns increasing in priority among many of today's data centers," said Dave Reinsel, research director at IDC. "Small form factor enterprise-class disk drives such as Seagate's Savvio have helped to enable more compact and cooler enterprise storage systems designed to help address these concerns. IDC expects the market for small form factor enterprise-class drives to increase at a 110% 2005-2010 CAGR."

The Savvio 10K.2 is ideal for the creation of new types of storage systems including blade servers with true enterprise-class storage, 1U servers with full RAID 5 capability, and larger rack servers with the highest performance density possible. Savvio's small size and ultra-low power consumption helps enable the creation of systems that can take advantage of today's high-powered processors that require greater cooling and airflow.

The Savvio 10K.2 delivers double the capacity available to 146GB and reduces power consumption by an average of 15% over its first-generation predecessor, and provides added performance enabled by perpendicular recording -- all with the world's best reliability rating at 1.6 million hours MTBF. The Savvio 10K.2 is available in the most advanced interfaces: 3Gb Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and 4Gb Fibre Channel.

Barracuda ES - The World's Largest Capacity Enterprise Drive
While mission-critical enterprise storage continues to drive core business server and storage needs, the digital revolution is challenging businesses of all sizes with storing, managing and protecting vast amounts of data. The Barracuda ES enables the cost-efficient business-critical 'infrastructure' build-out, delivering the largest capacity hard drive to the datacenter. The Barracuda ES targets storage solutions addressing today's fastest growing applications, including maximum capacity servers, rich media content, reference and compliance data, and data protection schemes such as disk-to- disk, virtual tape, snapshots and virtualization.

The new Barracuda ES combines the highest capacity available with Enterprise features demanded in 'multi-drive' capacity-intensive configurations, and is ideal for low cost-per-GB business storage solutions. With SATA capacities up to a massive 750GBs, the Barracuda ES powers RAID sub- systems and external storage solutions, supporting 50% more capacity within the same system form factor.

The 7200-RPM Barracuda ES delivers increased reliability and features Rotational Vibration Feed Forward (RVFF) technology to sustain performance when placed in closely packed multi-drive system environments. Engineered to deliver the best Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) rating possible, Seagate has also added Workload Management, a feature that helps protect the hard drive when thermal temperatures begin rising due to sustained heavy workloads, helping to keep drives and systems cool, increasing the reliability and longevity of the Barracuda ES product.

The Barracuda ES is offered in a 3Gb Serial ATA (SATA) version that includes Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and 8/16MB cache. With best-in-class storage density using perpendicular recording technology, the Barracuda ES is offered in capacities of 250, 400, 500, and 750GB. The Barracuda ES is also available in a 2Gb FC version in capacities of 400 and 500GB.
