Performance Meets Portability: GE Measurement and Control Launches Handheld VideoProbe(TM) with 3D Phase Measurement

With state-of-the-art 3D Phase Measurement and analysis the GE Mentor Visual iQ VideoProbe™ accurately detects visual indications such as corrosion, blockages and cracking

Streamlines inspection process reducing downtime

SKANEATELES, NY – GE’s (NYSE: GE) Measurement and Control business today introduced a new video borescope – the GE Mentor Visual iQ VideoProbe™ –  with state-of-the-art 3D Phase Measurement and analysis and Wi-Fi connectivity. The borescope’s superior image quality and faster, more precise detection abilities streamline the inspection process and help to ensure the safety and integrity of assets while reducing downtime.

Inspection technicians in the aerospace, power generation and oil & gas industries depend on precise inspections to keep equipment and facilities functioning under optimal conditions. For fast and accurate results, technicians employ non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, such as visual inspections, to alert technicians to any material or component indications that can adversely affect the integrity or safety of the equipment. Enhanced visual inspections, such as those possible with the GE Mentor Visual iQ VideoProbe, can help plant operators improve the probability of detection and reduce the chances of unplanned downtime, enabling safer, more efficient operation.

Designed for use across several industries, GE Mentor Visual iQ VideoProbe is equipped with an easy-to-use touchscreen interface, on-screen keyboard and ergonomic buttons. Menu Directed Inspection (MDI) guides users through the inspection process and organizes results for simplified reporting. Equipped with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, and similar to GE’s newly launched Mentor EM, the GE Mentor Visual iQ VideoProbe is built for real-time collaboration. Harnessing the power of the Industrial Internet, inspection technicians will be able to connect directly with experts from the field to get advice, share screens and images of the inspection site, make notes, and more accurately assess the area, helping to expedite the inspection process.

GE Mentor Visual iQ VideoProbe users can create and customize profile setups for multiple users and/or applications on the device. Users also have access to on-device manuals and context-based inspection support files. The Quick Change probes with multiple lengths and diameters and tip optics speed the inspection process by allowing technicians to identify more indications and collect more data with a single system. The 3D Phase Measurement capabilities help determine accurate indication depth and size for pitting, cracking and corrosion.

“The smallest indication on a turbine blade, engine or pipeline can have a monumental impact on how a piece of equipment operates,” said Katie Bianchi, General Manager, Remote Visual Inspection.  “Employing NDT visual inspection tools such as the GE Mentor Visual iQ VideoProbe provides technicians the needed visual agility and insight into the physical condition of equipment allowing them to make faster, better-informed decisions, saving valuable downtime and resources and ensuring the highest safety standards.”
