Handheld Oxygen Sensor provides one-step measurement.

Press Release Summary:

FOXY-LITE uses time-resolved fluorometry and sol-gel based optical sensing to calculate oxygen concentration in sample with response time of less than 1 sec. Sampling probe couples to unit via 600 micron bifurcated optical fiber, terminated with SMA 905 Connector. LCD display shows strip chart with oxygen values plotted over time. Oxygen levels may be displayed in ppm, % values, or customized units. FOXY-LITE interfaces to PC via USB connector or RS-232 serial port.

Ocean Optics Introduces Handheld Oxygen Sensor System

Innovative FOXY-LITE Provides Rapid One-step Oxygen Concentration Measurements

Dunedin, Fla., March 2004 -- Now available from Ocean Optics is the FOXY-LITE, an easy-to-use handheld oxygen sensor that uses time-resolved fluorometry and sol-gel based optical sensing technology to calculate oxygen concentration in a sample with a response time of less than one second. The FOXY-LITE can be used in a variety of applications including packaging and fuel tank headspace analysis, dissolved O2 monitoring, and O2 detection in biological samples such as blood and tissue. Additionally, the FOXY-LITE system is ideal for long-term measurements including environmental monitoring and cell culturing applications.

Available for $1,999, the FOXY-LITE includes a Ocean Optics FOXY-R, a 1000 micron stainless steel oxygen sensor probe with a transducer material - a proprietary fluorescent ruthenium complex immobilized in a submicron-thin sol-gel matrix - at the probe's tip. The sampling probe couples to the FOXY-LITE via a 600 micron bifurcated optical fiber terminated with an SMA 905 Connector. The FOXY-LITE operates with any Ocean Optics 1000 µm FOXY Sensor Probe.

The FOXY-LITE features an easy-to-read LCD display that can show a strip chart with oxygen values plotted over time. Oxygen levels may be displayed in ppm or in % values, or customized in user-defined units. Temperature readings can be displayed in Fahrenheit or Celsius values when the FOXY-LITE is used with an Ocean Optics RTD probe.

The FOXY-LITE's onboard blue (470 nm) pulsed LED light source excites an analyte while its specially filtered single-element detector captures the sample's fluorescence decay at 600 nm to determine oxygen levels. This time-resolved fluorescence method makes the FOXY-LITE less sensitive to effects from ambient light and photobleaching while extending the life of the unit's calibration settings.

The FOXY-LITE can be interfaced to a PC via a USB connector or an RS-232 serial port. Optional PC-based software is available to analyze and log data. Additionally, overlimit/underlimit indicators, such as temperature alarms, can be set via TTL signals that are accessible in the FOXY-LITE.
