Textron Fastening Systems Launches Advanced Line of Avdel Genesis Handtools
TROY, Mich., Aug. 31, 2006 - Textron Fastening Systems has introduced lightweight Avdel® Genesis® nG handtools with advanced features that increase reliability, ergonomics, productivity, and service over the models they replace.
The new hydro-pneumatic Avdel® Genesis® nG2, nG3 and nG4 installation tools are applicable in assembly operations that use breakstem rivets and related fasteners in construction, automotive, aerospace, and general industrial uses. They replace Avdel® Genesis® G2, G3 and G4 models.
"Avdel® Genesis® nG tools are stronger, lighter and faster," said Seshu Seshasai, executive vice president of technology for Textron Fastening System. "Safety, productivity and improved ergonomics were key to their development."
New features include a redesigned spring that reduces installation rates to 1.2 seconds per rivet, with pull forces that vary between 2,100 lbf and 4,200 lbf. An integrated cycle counter tracks placements and alerts operators to maintenance schedules.
A soft rubber grip reduces operator fatigue, and air supply shuts off automatically when the trigger is released, or when the stem collector is removed. A new bearing guide controlled by a hydraulic piston reduces oil consumption.
Avdel® Genesis® nG handtools weigh between 4.3 pounds and 5.0 pounds, with impact-resistant plastic bodies and heavy-duty rubber bases for long-term service in demanding assembly environments. Steel tie rods remove structural loads from the body and secure air cylinder components directly to the tool head.
