Original Press Release:

Easy Test for Disinfection Levels

Erlanger, KY: Water analysis specialist Palintest has introduced an easy-to-use, hand-held meter for the accurate determination of bromine and chlorine levels in water. The splashproof instrument is equally suitable for bench use in treatment plants and laboratories, or for field use by engineers and contractors.

The Bromometer Duo uses the established Palintest DPD chlorine and bromine test methods to offer a fast, simple check on disinfection and sterilization levels. Using genuine Palintest reagents it can accurately test bromine in the range 0-10mg/l and chlorine in the range 0-5mg/l, with a resolution of 0.01mg/l for both ranges.

After dissolving the reagent in a sample, the sample tube is placed in the meter and a single button pressed. The reading is then clearly displayed on a 10mm LCD screen. The automatic blank recognition and zero setting means taking measurements is easy, and the blank reading can be held in memory for testing multiple samples.

The Bromometer Duo is powered by two 1.5V batteries, which should last for 20,000 readings, and features automatic switch-off. It is supplied as a complete test kit including carry case, reagents, test tubes and a certificate confirming conformance to calibration standards. Optional check standards can be used to confirm calibration settings and a recalibration service is available to assist customers in meeting EPA guidelines and internal quality assurance procedures.

The accurate determination of disinfectant residuals is of prime importance for water management and control. This is particularly significant for testing drinking water, servicing cooling towers, and testing other bodies of water where contamination could be dangerous to the public such as spas and swimming pools.
