Hamilton Sundstrand's Kidde Aerospace & Defense Unit to Supply Environmentally-Friendly Fire Protection Systems for Boeing P-8A

PARIS, June 18 /-- PARIS AIR SHOW -- Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), announced today its Kidde Aerospace & Defense unit has been selected to supply Dry Bay Fire Protection Systems for the Boeing P-8A.

The Dry Bay Fire Protection System will detect and suppress fires and explosions caused by hostile ballistic threats in the aircraft's vulnerable dry bays. Dry bays are aircraft compartments that normally are free of flammable fluids, but these fluids could be introduced into the bays as a result of ballistic damage or system faults. The potential program value for Hamilton Sundstrand could exceed $100 million for both domestic and international sales over the life of the program.

"We are very pleased to be a partner on the Boeing P-8A program. Kidde's past experience in dry bay fire protection will benefit the program greatly," said Tom Hillman, general manager of the Kidde Aerospace & Defense's aviation businesses. "The investments we have made in both in optical based fire detection and Environmentally-friendly, non-Halon fire suppression technologies allowed us to meet all of Boeing's requirements."

Hamilton Sundstrand had previously been selected to supply the electric power generating system, power distribution and cooling systems on the P-8A.

The P-8A is a long-range anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft. It possesses an advanced mission system for maximum interoperability in battle space. Capable of broad-area, maritime and littoral operations, the P-8A is expected to influence how the U.S. Navy's maritime patrol and reconnaissance forces train, operate and deploy.
