Hamilton Sundstrand Electric System Completes First Flight on Australian 737 AEW&C Aircraft


WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn., Feb. 29 - The first Boeing 737 Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft modified in Australia for Project Wedgetail completed a functional check flight on Jan. 23 with an electric system supplied by Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

Project Wedgetail includes six Boeing 737 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft plus ground support segments for mission support and crew training.

Hamilton Sundstrand's electric system includes two 180-kilovolt-ampere (kVA) integrated drive generators and controls, a power distribution system comprising six secondary power distribution assemblies, and a control display unit. Hamilton Sundstrand estimates total program revenue of $8.6 million.

"Our third-generation secondary power distribution system manages power to various mission utility uses throughout the aircraft."
