Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. Introduces World's First Omnipolar Hall-Effect Sensor Suited for 3.6 V to 24 V

Worcester, MA, March 30, 2005 - Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. introduces the A3245, the world's first omnipolar Hall-effect device suited for 3.6 V to 24 V. The omnipolar feature of Allegro's new A3245 digital switch easily allows for replacement of reed switches for superior reliability and ease of manufacturing, while eliminating the requirement for signal conditioning. Additionally, the omnipolar capability of this device eliminates the need for magnet orientation for "simple position sensing applications during manufacturing.

Superior high-temperature performance is made possible through Allegro- patented dynamic offset cancellation, which reduces the residual offset voltage normally caused by device over-molding, temperature dependencies and thermal stress. The omnipolar feature allows operation with either a north or a south pole of sufficient strength turning the output on; in the absence of a magnetic field, the output is off.

On a single silicon chip, the A3245 includes a voltage regulator, Hall-voltage generator, small-signal amplifier, chopper stabilization, Schmitt trigger, and a short-circuit-protected open-collector output. Advanced BiCMOS wafer fabrication processing is used to take advantage of low-voltage requirements, component matching, very low input-offset errors, and small component geometries. The A3245 is targeted to the consumer, computer/office, industrial and automotive markets.

Rated for operation over a temperature range of -40°C to +150°C, the A3245 family is provided in a three-pin single in-line package (UA) and a three-pin surface-mount package (LH). The A3245 is priced at $0.41 for the 'E' temperature range, and $0.52 for the 'L' temperature range. The leadtime for both packages is 6-8 weeks.

Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. is a supplier of advanced mixed-signal power semiconductors and Hall-effect sensors targeted toward the automotive, communications, computer/office automation, consumer and industrial markets.
