Hall-Effect Sensor Interface offers analog and digital outputs.

Press Release Summary:

Available in 3 x 5 mm, 10-pin µMAX® package, dual 2-wire Model MAX9621 enables microprocessor to monitor status of Hall-effect sensors either through analog output by mirroring sensor current for linear information or through filtered digital output. Device protects sensors from supply transients up to 60 V and short-to-ground conditions. Operating from 5.5-18 V supply, MAX9621 features 1 µA shutdown mode and is specified over -40 to +125°C automotive temperature range.

Original Press Release:

Dual, 2-Wire, Hall-Effect Sensor Interface Provides Flexibility Through Analog and Digital Outputs

Hall-effect sensor interface allows µP to use analog or digital outputs.

Maxim's new Hall-effect sensor interface offers an analog output for linear information and a digital output for Hall-effect switches, thus giving designers multiple sensor-monitoring options.

SUNNYVALE, CA - Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9621, a dual, 2-wire, Hall-effect sensor interface with analog and digital outputs. This device enables the microprocessor to monitor the status of Hall-effect sensors either through the analog output by mirroring the sensor current for linear information or through the filtered digital output. The input current threshold can be programmed for the digital output. A high-side current-sense architecture eliminates the need for a ground-return wire without introducing ground shift, thus reducing wiring cost by 50%. The MAX9621 is well suited for automotive body controllers such as window lifters.

The MAX9621 protects sensors from supply transients up to 60V and short-to-ground conditions, which enables it to withstand the harsh operating conditions in automotive applications. The device features a minimum of 50µs blanking time following Hall-effect sensor power-up or restart. A low-current (1µA, typ) shutdown mode conserves power.

Available in a 3mm x 5mm, 10-pin µMAX® package, the MAX9621 operates from a 5.5V to 18V supply and is fully specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range. Pricing starts at $0.87 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available upon request.
