Press Release Summary:

Suited for driving MOSFETs and IGBTs in consumer and industrial applications up to 600 V, FAN7383, FAN7384, and FAN73832 feature common-mode dv/dt noise-canceling circuit for achieving optimal noise immunity. Pb-free, high-voltage gate driver ICs (HVICs) come in 8-DIP, 8-SOP, and 14-SOP packages and offer options for shut down, dead-time control, and short-circuit protection. Level-shift circuitry is included for high-side driver operation with negative VS swings up to -9.8 V.

Original Press Release:

Fairchild Semiconductor's Industry-Leading HVICs Save Space, Increase Reliability and Reduce Power Consumption in a Range of Applications

South Portland, Maine--November 30, 2006--Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) introduces industry-leading high-voltage gate driver ICs (HVIC) that feature an innovative common-mode dv/dt noise-canceling circuit for achieving excellent noise immunity. The FAN7383, FAN7384 and FAN73832 offer savings of at least 50 percent PCB area compared to optocoupler or pulse transformer-based solutions. Their high performance ensures superior system reliability and energy efficiency when compared to similar HVICs on the market. Fairchild's HVICs are the optimal solution for driving MOSFETs and IGBTs in a wide array of consumer and industrial applications up to 600V. These include inverter motor drives, switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) and electronic ballasts.

"Fairchild's latest half-bridge gate drivers offer designers the flexibility to optimize board space and system performance according to their application's specifications," said HK Kim, Fairchild's vice president, Power Conversion product line. "The feature set of these high-performance HVICs includes 8-DIP, 8-SOP and 14-SOP packages and also options for shut down, dead-time control and short-circuit protection."

Industry-leading benefits include:

System reliability--Fairchild's HVICs feature advanced level-shift circuitry for industry-leading, high-side driver operation with negative VS swings of up to -9.8V (at VBS = 15V). This results in the devices' unique ability to eliminate an extra diode, unlike other HVICs on the market. In addition, Fairchild's HVICs provide excellent noise immunity by utilizing a common-mode dv/dt noise-canceling circuit;

Power savings--These devices boast the industry's lowest quiescent currents for extremely low power consumption, a particularly important feature in motor applications; and

Stable performance--Exhibiting the market's lowest temperature dependency, achieved by optimizing the internal circuit design, these HVICs deliver full functionality at either cold or hot ambient temperatures, which guarantees stable performance in a wide range of applications.

To further enhance efficiency, these HVICs feature a floating channel designed for bootstrap operation to +600V. They also increase reliability by providing under-voltage lockout (UVLO) on both channels, and an 11-20V supply range for VCC.

These lead (Pb)-free devices meet or exceed the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020C and are compliant with European Union regulations now in effect.
