Maretron Showcases High Performance Compass at the Miami International Boat Show


New rate gyro electronic compass proves its mettle in autopilot sea tests and is a featured product at the NMEA 2000(R) ConnectFest

MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Feb. 17 - What better way to test Maretron's new rate gyro electronic compass than on the deck of a boat plagued by years of autopilot-related steering problems? None, as far as Bob Moulton, captain of the 90' Fort Lauderdale-based "Comanche," is concerned.

After spending countless hours and thousands of dollars trying to fix the Comanche's over steering, "S-ing" and unexpected course changes, the problems were resolved when Maretron, a leader in engineering and manufacturing marine electronic networked instrumentation, installed its SSC200 compass late last year.

The SSC200 is a solid-state rate gyro electronic compass that is factory calibrated to deliver precise, reliable heading information 10 times per second and vessel attitude readings, including pitch and roll, once per second. In addition, the compass provides better than 1-degree roll and pitch accuracy in static conditions and, by using stabilization algorithms, delivers accurate, stable readings during hard turns and rough seas. The SSC200's high performance characteristics make it an ideal heading sensor for autopilot applications.
