Vilant Launches Vilant Tracker - a Mobile Tracking Innovation that Challenges Traditional GPS and Barcode Logistics Solutions

ESPOO, Finland -- ABB, Sandvik, Scania Parts Logistics and Autoliv among others have successfully piloted Vilant Tracker for tracking their critical shipments via the mobile network

Vilant Systems, the European leader of tracking solutions for logistics and manufacturing, has launched a new type of monitoring device and service management for international logistics flows. Unique advantages of the invention are its cost-efficiency and suitability for air transport monitoring. Vilant Tracker device is the only GSM based tracking device available, which has been granted a safety certificate for airfreight tracking compatibility by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

A unique and simple solution for tracking critical shipments and traveling assets, Vilant Tracker enables companies to build a global tracking network quickly and without the need for infrastructure investment. The Vilant Tracker devices accompany shipments all day, worldwide, informing the users about shipment position and status. The online Tracker Portal shows tracking history and current location of shipments enabling full tracking and tracing capability. Companies are using Vilant Tracker to provide actual route data on their customer deliveries, gain visibility to their expensive or express shipments, as well as, project deliveries - helping to better plan their resources.

"Our Target is to have 100% on-time delivery of our products to customers around the world. We have been looking for a solution that would enable us to create an independent real-time tracking system for quite some time," says Risto Lehtola, Development Coordinator at ABB Motors and Generators. "Only now, with Vilant Tracker we are able to fulfill this need. It is an innovative solution that is both fast to setup and very cost efficient. We are looking forward to introducing it as an ABB wide tracking solution."

In addition, companies can also benefit by using Vilant Tracker to analyze their logistics processes - verifying or learning about the actual route points of the logistics process and defining the bottlenecks and problems.

"The Trackers are very clever technology and incredibly useful for what I do. Not needing a fixed infrastructure is a real plus," says Richard Wishart of Delivery Management.

Global Coverage

Through a partnership with Swisscom, Vilant Tracker is the first available solution that utilizes the global mobile network for tracking shipments making it more cost efficient than GPS-based solutions. In addition, Vilant Trackers are locatable wherever the GSM network works, so also in buildings and inside of containers or vehicles.

"We were pleased to be selected as Vilant Tracker's global M2M partner," states Gerhard Schedler, Head of M2M Centre of Competence, Swisscom. "Our Location Based Service (LBS) offering, in combination with our over 600 international roaming partners Swisscom M2M is able to assure that Vilant can deliver superior service to their customers virtually anywhere in the world."

About Vilant Tracker Device

Vilant Tracker device is slightly larger than a credit card. It combines a GSM transmitter, accelerometer sensors and special software. The device logs on a periodic GSM network location, leaving a signal, also when inside a building. The simple technology allows for long-lasting battery life and cost efficiency. The device can be quickly taken into use and costs only few tens of euros. However, it can easily lead to savings reaching hundreds of thousands per day in production where supply disruptions can be addressed proactively. For example, with online monitoring, a factory production unit can immediately identify if any of the production material deliveries are delayed.

Vilant Air Tracker

Air Tracker is EASA certified, enabling it to be used also in air cargo. The patent pending flight-mode technology turns the device off when it is airborne. Its rechargeable battery lasts, on average, for up to 30 days giving location positioning 24 times per day. Location accuracy in urban areas is approximately 500 m (0.3 miles) and in rural areas approximately 2 km (1.2 miles).

Vilant Road Tracker

Road Tracker is optimized for road tracking needs, enabling it to be used in continuous tracking. Its rechargeable battery lasts for up to 20 days giving location positioning 24 times per day. Location accuracy in urban areas is approximately 500 m (0.3 miles) and in rural areas approximately 2 km (1.2 miles).

Vilant Sea Tracker

The Sea Tracker is optimized for the requirements of sea freight and it has a long, over 3 month, battery lifetime.
