Grinding Wheels feature porous surface that resists gumming.

Press Release Summary:

Superabrasive vitrified diamond and CBN grinding wheels use KP Bonding Technology to improve performance. Bonding process uses hollow glass spheres as filler material to provide additional strength to bond post, creating porous surface that resists loading and burning. Form-holding capability extends interval between dressing cycles. KP bonded superabrasives can be used for creep feed grinding, OD cylindrical grinding, camshaft grinding, and slot grinding.

KP Bonding Improves Superabrasive Grinding Wheel Performance in a Wide Range of Applications

CINCINNATI, OH (September 4, 2002) - KP Bonding Technology is helping the Noritake Abrasive Division manufacture a new generation of improved performance superabrasive vitrified diamond and CBN grinding wheels.

The patented bonding process uses hollow glass spheres rather than traditional aluminum oxide as a filler material to provide additional strength to the bond post, creating a porous wheel finish that resists loading and burning. This allows higher feed rates for improved machine throughput, higher wheel speed for improved metal removal rates, and improved thermal control for better finishing accuracy. In field tests, these grinding wheels have also shown improved form-holding capability, extending the interval between dressing cycles.

KP bonded superabrasives can be used in a wide range of grinding applications including creep feed grinding, OD cylindrical grinding, camshaft grinding, and slot grinding. They are particularly suited for hard-to-grind aerospace materials, including stainless steel and high temperature superalloys, since the porous wheel surface effectively resists gumming that typically occurs when grinding these materials.

Noritake Co., Inc., is a multi-divisional manufacturer of industrial ceramics, electronic components, roller hearth kilns, and fine china. The Noritake Abrasive Division, is the largest of Noritake's Industrial Products Group, manufactures a complete line of high performance grinding wheels, diamond and CBN tools, coated abrasives, grinding machines and peripherals, coolant, abrasive media and polishing chemicals.
