Grinding Fixture helps resharpen tools.

Press Release Summary:

R-O Form relief grinding fixture provides ability to resharpen steel and carbide multiple step drills, reamers, core drills, taps, countersinks, counter bores and gun drills. It provides constant radial arc of form relief, so heat will travel to trailing edge of flute and disperse in chips. Fixture can be used for both axial and radial relief. It works with collets or between centers. Cams are reversible for grinding right and left hand relief.

R-O Form Relief Grinding Fixture

The R-O Form relief grinding fixture gives any toolroom or cutter grinding department the added flexibility to rapidly and accurately re-sharpen steel and carbide multiple step drills, reamers, core drills, taps, countersinks, counter bores, gun drills and a multitude of similar types of cutting tools. But what makes this particular fixture unique is that it employs the "Form Relief' principle of grinding cutting tools. With a constant radial arc of form relief, the heat will travel to the trailing edge of the flute and disperse in the chips.

The conventional method of using a finger as a guide to position each flute of the tool and then grind "off' the tool to hold its position against the finger, generates a wire or feather edge at the cutting edge of the tool. This allows chips to penetrate between the minute irregularities in the cutting edge causing premature dulling of the tool and dulling on the finish of the part.

The form relief method grinds in the opposite or "on" direction as a cam within the fixture governs the positioning of the flute. This generates a cleaner and stronger cutting edge In addition the cam action allows the relief behind the cutting edge to be generated in one motion. Not the usual two separate grinds for primary and secondary relief needed when using conventional cutter grinders.

The R-O form relief fixture can be used for both axial and radial relief The ease with which any compound angle can be cut plus the simple cam controlled motion allows for rapid setup with a guarantee that each time a tool is re-sharpened, the setup will be exactly the same as was used before, irrespective of the operator. With either hand or motorized units available, this fixture is capable of working with collets, or between centers. Cams are reversible for grinding right and left hand relief on one to ten flutes as standard. With the addition of the optional radial adjusting spindle, the operator can make radial adjustments on these tools without releasing them from the collet.

The R-O form relief fixture can be used on either its own dedicated R-O grinder, the new compact R-O universal 2 axis servo control cylindrical grinder, the Cincinnati #2, K.O. Lee or the Brown and Sharpe N13 and others.
