Green IT Council Bestows Chairman's Award to Murata's MAGICSTRAP®

Innovative RFID Solution Commended for Delivering Energy-Saving Benefits

Smyrna, GA – Murata today announced that its MAGICSTRAP® series received the 2013 Green IT Awards Chairman's Award from the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association's (JEITA) Green IT Committee (formerly the Green IT Promotion Council).  The committee is tasked with creating an energy-saving technology roadmap and increasing awareness of Green IT both in Japan and internationally.  The award honors technology companies that contribute to reducing energy consumption, conserving the environment, and establishing economic growth.  Murata's MAGICSTRAP® was selected for its Printed Circuit Board (PCB) traceability and leveraging technology to contribute to an energy-saving society.

"Understandably, we are very proud of this recognition," stated Gerry Hubers, Business Development Manager, Murata Americas.  "RFID technology offers great potential in identification and tracking methods, and MAGICSTRAP's® PCB traceability is an integral part of this solution.

The Murata MAGICSTRAP® has built-in high-frequency circuit technology and a reference design that enables electronic tag functions to be easily incorporated onto printed circuit boards to save on resources.  Simply attaching this compact solution with Murata's antenna reference design makes life-cycle traceability for a wide range of electronic devices viable.  This allows for the immediate identification of multiple IDs and data rewriting from manufacturing through the distribution, maintenance, disposal, and recycling stages.  Further, if radio waves are able to penetrate the housing and packaging, it is possible for the MAGICSTRAP® to be identified and rewritten – without dismantling or unpacking the electronic device in question.  More information can be found at http://www.murataamericas.com/rfid.
