Sauer-Danfoss Unveils PLUS+1TM GUIDE 6.1, Work Function Control Library

Compatibility of PLUS+1 GUIDE 6.1 with ‘Structured Text’ code offers customers reduced costs and accelerated time to market

AMES, Iowa, USA – Sauer-Danfoss Inc. (NYSE:SHS) Sauer-Danfoss today introduced the new version 6.1 of PLUS+1TM GUIDE, their industry-proven graphical programming environment, at bauma 2013 in Munich. Version 6.1 of GUIDE (Graphical User Integrated Development Environment) offers customers a powerful, flexible new feature: support of the PLC programming language Structured Text which is part of the IEC 61131-3 standard.

Sauer-Danfoss also exhibited the PLUS+1 GUIDE Work Function Control Library, which is optional in version 6.1 of GUIDE. The Work Function Control Library — available in June 2013 — contains pre-programmed software blocks that are essential to the development of electronically controlled work functions for off-highway machines.

“We’re continuously improving and expanding the features of PLUS+1 GUIDE to maximize the engineering productivity of our customers,” said Marco Tacke, Product Marketing Manager of Software Solutions Services at Sauer-Danfoss. “The flexibility of PLUS+1 GUIDE version 6.1 enables customers to reduce machine development costs and accelerate time to market.

“The Work Function Control Library allows customers to develop more competitive machines, cut development and production costs and fulfill legal requirements more easily and economically.”

PLUS+1 GUIDE 6.1 offers customers ‘best of both worlds’

PLUS+1 GUIDE 6.1 provides programmers the capability to import and export Structured Text code created in other tools when developing embedded-controller software for mobile hydraulic applications. With the freedom to smoothly transition between the familiar Structured Text textual language and the industry-proven graphical language of PLUS+1 GUIDE, programmers can select the tool best-suited for their application development needs.

PLUS+1 GUIDE 6.1 provides for:

• Direct import and edit of Structured Text code in PLUS+1 GUIDE from tools that support IEC61131 standard

• Direct usage of available Structured Text code on Sauer-Danfoss PLUS+1 controllers and displays

• Advanced Structured Text editor to create, edit and manage Structured Text libraries (POUs) in PLUS+1 GUIDE

• Availability of proven and tested PLUS+1 GUIDE libraries for mobile machine applications that can be used in conjunction with Structured Text

“The PLUS+1 GUIDE 6.1 programming environment offers customers the best of both worlds,” Tacke said. “Programmers can now realize the benefits of our powerful, user-friendly GUIDE programming environment while utilizing their extensive library of Structured Text to maximize the use of their knowledge and experience.”

Sauer-Danfoss also has incorporated new features into the PLUS+1 GUIDE Service Tool, which provides the ability to monitor and tune the operation of all devices on a PLUS+1 system. New features in the PLUS+1 GUIDE Service Tool include improved grouping and layout capabilities and advanced scaling of signal values.

“Based on customer feedback, many features and functions were implemented into the PLUS+1 GUIDE Service Tool that will enable a service interface to be developed faster, with fewer errors,” Tacke said.

Work Function Control Library helps meet Tier IV more economically

Optional in version 6.1 of PLUS+1 GUIDE, the new Work Function Control Library allows customers to easily add powerful and complex work function solutions. The library includes intelligent and efficient power management features that can enable customers to downsize the engine and meet emissions regulations such as Tier IV more economically.

The PLUS+1 GUIDE Work Function Control Library can save hundreds of hours of time and significant cost during the development and testing of software for new machines, and helps to minimize programming errors through the use of well-tested and documented Sauer-Danfoss software blocks.

“Differentiating work function features now can be added with ease,” Tacke said. “Even less experienced programmers now can use the benefits of electronic flow sharing and intelligent engine speed control. The library allows the use of smaller engines, which will reduce engine cost and free space on the machine that can be utilized for more competitive features and functions.”

The PLUS+1 GUIDE Work Function Control Library provides for easy implementation of electronic flow sharing in new and existing machines. Electronic flow sharing features include:

• Monitoring of flow demand for multiple Proportional Valve Group (PVG) sections

• Determination if the flow demand exceeds limits

• Prioritization of work functions according to defined priority levels and minimum flow rates

• Capability to dynamically adjust priorities

• Automatic flow sharing between work functions

Intelligent engine speed control allows for easy implementation of engine power management in new and existing machines, more efficient operation of the engine and power savings. Intelligent engine speed control features include:

• Determination of minimum speed requirements

• Control of efficient optimal operation of the engine and engine set-point

• Prevention of engine stall in case the power limit is exceeded

• Prevention of engine over-speed for engine protection

“Electronic flow sharing and intelligent engine speed control can lower the overall power consumption and enable the use of smaller, less expensive engines,” Tacke said. “Smaller engines help to reduce development and production costs, achieve lower fuel consumption and fulfill Tier 4 requirements.”

The PLUS+1 GUIDE Work Function Control Library is well-suited for customers developing machines and vehicles such as telehandlers, backhoe loaders, aerial lifts, truck-mounted cranes and specialty vehicles. Usage of the IEC61508-2010 certified PLUS+1 GUIDE tool chain reduces efforts to the CE certification of the machine according to legislation standards and safety requirements. It is essential for the introduction of machines to the European Union.
