XMCGA6 NVDIA® GPU-Based Rugged XMC from GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms Brings High Performance Graphics to Harsh Environments

Graphics Processing Unit and 8-lane PCI Express(TM) deliver higher bandwidth and performance

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, a unit of GE Enterprise Solutions, today announced the rugged XMCGA6 High Performance Graphics XMC. Featuring either the NVIDIA® G72 or G73 GPU (graphics processing unit) used in high end consumer gaming platforms such as the GeForce® 7300GS and GeForce 7600GT, the XMGA6 is designed to deliver outstanding graphics performance in demanding applications that will be deployed in harsh environments. The XMCGA6 builds further on the close relationship between GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms and NVIDIA Corporation.

"Their support for higher bandwidth interconnectivity is driving interest in Express Mezzanine Cards at a rapid pace," said Peter Cavill, General Manager, Military & Aerospace Products at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms. "Announcement of the XMCGA6 complements our recent announcement of the SE 2 integrated graphics solution - which features both an Intel Core 2 Duo processor as well as an NVIDIA GPU - and gives us an even broader range of options that can satisfy the growth in demand for powerful graphics capabilities."

The XMCGA6 supports 8-lane PCI Express(TM) for optimum communication with a host platform such as the GE Fanuc PowerXtreme 6U VME PPC9A single board computer: it can, however, automatically adapt to 4-lane PCI Express environments. Up to 256 Mbytes of GDDR3 memory (G73) is supported.

With its rich set of I/O, the XMCGA6 is designed to serve many of the most common video applications. Dual, independent channels mean that it is capable of driving RGB analog component video and digital DVI 1.0 at maximum resolutions of 1,600 x 1,200, and supports the RS170, NTSC or PAL standards. In addition, the XMCGA6's video input capability allows integration of sensor data using RS170, NTSC or PAL video formats.

Support is provided for operation in the Windows®, Linux® and VxWorks® environments.
