GPS Timing Reference offers field-portable operation.

Press Release Summary:

MGTR GPS Timing Reference system performs synchronized end-to-end tests of line protection schemes. Equipped with 12-channel GPS timing receiver integrated with proprietary microprocessor-controlled timing and interface logic, unit simultaneously tracks all available GPS satellites to gather precise timing information. In addition, unit provides a standard 1 pulse/sec, ASCII serial time message, external event time-tag, and a 10 MHz output signal.

Megger Launches New State-of-the-Art GPS Timing Reference (MGTR)
Designed as a technologically advanced GPS satellite receiver system that allows users to perform synchronized End-to-End tests of line protection schemes. The new field-portable Megger MGTR works with the Megger MPRT and Pulsar relay test systems and ensures the highest accuracy possible for a variety of timing applications.

The MGTR uses a precise Programmed Output Pulse (POP) that provides a trigger synchronization of two or more MPRT or Pulsar test systems to less than 1 µ Sec of the Universal Time Coordinated (UTC). After a short period of time tracking GPS satellites, the accuracy of the unit approaches that of the Cesium clocks in the GPS satellites.

Equipped with a twelve-channel GPS timing receiver, that is integrated with proprietary microprocessor-controlled timing and interface logic, the unit quickly and simultaneously tracks all available GPS satellites and is able to gather precise timing information. In addition, the unit provides a standard 1 Pulse Per Second (PPS), ASCII serial time message, external event time-tag and a 10 MHz output signal.

The MGTR also features Intelligent Holdover and FastStart technologies that provide near-Rubidium holdover characteristics in the absence of GPS signals, and precision and stability in record time. These features are a particularly valuable asset when performing End-to-End tests near government facilities, which may locally block GPS signals or in urban canyon areas.
Weighing only 1.0 lb (0.453 kg), the MGTR is small, lightweight and comes with a 50 ft. (15.2 m) long cable and an all-weather, high-performance, high-noise immunity antenna. The antenna is designed with an integrated low-noise preamplifier and comes with a 4-inch antenna mount.

Control of the MGTR is through a standard RS-232 serial connection and an adapter cable with a 9-pin D-sub connection. Software is included to communicate with and control the unit.
